Ever shot an avocado pit?

Been perusing the kitchen for what would be food trash, suitable as a target.

The avo pit is pretty hard and feels solid, not hollow, so I'm thinking pellets would be safer than BBs.

One of the walnuts is darkened the way they look when the nuts inside are dark brown to black and taste horrible.

No bricklike old fruitcakes on hand, but we have one full can of soda that neither of us wants to drink. A couple of shakes followed with one hour in freezing temps outside = splooshy spray when holed??

This time of the year, ice cubes are rather fun. And no clean up!

Rotten or cracked eggs. Just be sure to stay upwind. 

Rotten oranges can be spectacular if they're rotten enough and hit hard enough.

Overripe tomatoes are fun too. Also apples off the ground.

  I have always liked to shoot Nicco Wafers Candy since I was a kid.  They dissolve when shot outside so no clean up necessary.  The dollar stores usually have them.  I just make a few stands out of bent coat hanger wire to hold them as they are small targets.

These are how my Dad started me out as a kid with a new bb gun! (mid 60's)
Threaded a spring clothes pin on a string between to upright sticks or saplings and hung the wafer in the clothes pin.
 Shoot to break the wafer (for whatever points you want) but points off if you hit the clothes pin. 

of course I got to eat a few!

Yep. They make a dandy reactive target.

Overripe tomatoes are fun too. Also apples off the ground.

  I grew up on a small truck farm in the deep south so there was no shortage of vegetables and fruit to shoot at with my Binjamin 342.  A favorite was overripe or bird pecked tomatoes placed on top of the tomato sticks. They really exploded when hit with a hollow point at 10 pumps.

Ice cubes dyed with a little food coloring (could be red Tabasco) is a great idea as long as I can pump and reload fast enough to beat the meltdown.

Exploding fruit that hasn't rotted too long...none on hand now but that's one to remember when it happens.

Necco made one variety of wafer flavors in tropical fruits like passion fruit that I liked, but only one seller had them. The standard flavors, meh. They do resemble small Shatterblast clay discs! Good target for the Model 25. Finding wood clothes pins might be hard these days!

Thanks for the ideas, and I always like to read ideas for more found target candidates.

Out west we have "Buckeye" trees with a stone that stays attached to tree for quite a spell.  There @ twice the size of an avocado stone.

Walk the woods in late spring early summer and have at it !!!  They generally explode hit with @ 30fpe .22
Distance to target is wide open so long as able see them hanging off branches.

Pine cones are plentiful here... both hanging and on the ground. There are always things floating in our run off pond. Both great for off hand shooting practice while walking around.

Necco Wafer shooter since the early 80s here.  I read about Rober Beeman saying he used them in the Beeman Catalog wayyyyyy back- about the time the C-1 carbine showed up.

Only problem is I still eat about half the "targets".  The Utz cheeseballs don't get a chance to become targets. 

We have a fair number of osage trees on our property, and will shoot at the hedge-apples.  They are BIG targets, quite dense, and really only react when hit with higher power pellets.  OTOH, they're great for the big-bores.

Thanks for the heads-up. Don't forget if it's on the fingers it's also going to get on the pellets. Then inside the bore. Orange cleaning patches?

Mainly, I'm not so fond of attracting pests. OTOH, if there were a particular culprit I wanted to lure in...

Come to think of it, blocks of hard cheese could serve as target backing. $$$ way to do it. Mice (which have not been a problem here) would love discovering tiny plugs of pellety cheese.

The pit has been partly peeled. Both the outer shell and the innards are pretty tough. No holes--it just got a hairline crack and subsequent shots blew parts off.

Walnuts are way more fun to shoot.

I concur. They are almost like shooting a reactive target.
