Polish or Not Polish inside of 1322 tube ?

I've deburred to a point, but next time I take it apart I was wondering if doing a polish job on the inside of the tube would really help anything  ?
$60 plus shipping for a shotgun hone is alot if it wouldn't make any noticeable difference in hammer travel and flat top o-ring life span ?

What do YOU do ?

True.

If really wanting it, just polish it yourself using Flitz or Mother’s, or buy an extra one from Alliance Hobby; his are smooth like them CCS guns and w/o those ugly stamp marks.

Speaking of honed tubes, I believe Don Cothran hones his 22xx tubes; own a couple of his 👍

I don't want to add anything to my order with Alliance Hobby and delay it anymore than it is. Going on a month since I ordered the screw in pin hammer. Added a 12" barrel and steel breech to the order but no work needs to be done on those.
Wanna ask how far along it is.. didn't realize he makes it for each order.

Speaking again of honing again, I remember so many years ago of blowguns, particularly the Tuff Ram models, having teflon-coated bores.

It didn’t interest me that much ‘cuz they only came in .40 caliber and I was/am a .50 or .55 blowgunner.

I remember them being mentioned in the blowgun forums as having a very slippery and tough bore 👍

Nowadays, I think nickel boron has about replaced it, although I’m not that certain, but it’s what Ron Mahovsky, a plater since the 80s, recommends for anything that undergoes friction and is close in durability to chrome.

I did send out a brand new and unfired airgun to Mahovsky’s Metalife for nickel boron plating late last month…not a pumper though..

Moreover, it’s what he coats shotgun barrels with  👍

Need to get a solid cleaning rod and use a shotgun bore brush to hold so fine grit sand paper, I only have spinning rods.
Just spin it till all is smooth as silk. Mirror polish isn't needed.

That should be easy to do ‘cuz they’re just mild steel, these Crosman/AG stuff 👍

Make a butterfly, that's a $2 term for a split dowel. Use a half inch or a little bigger, you want to be a little smaller than the inside diameter. Slit the end with a saw, and I like to fold a strip of sandpaper in half lengthwise. Slide it it the slot and spin the rod with a drill. Keep it moving back and forth, with light oil on it. Use 400 or 600 wet or dry, it should only take a few minutes. If you have crocus cloth, that's excellent.

That sounds like a waste of $60 to me. You could polish the heck out of it, close it up, and possibly never see the inside of the tube again.

For springer type airguns, the inside of the compression chamber gets a cross hatch honing, but not a polish. The cross hatch pattern holds lubricant better than a polished surface. I use an automotive brake cylinder hone for this, but I’m not sure how small it will go. Some 400 grit wet/dry paper wrapped around a wooden dowel will do the job as well.

It's almost worth it to me to get a shotgun hone as I do gun work, but after a few it wouldn't get used but maybe once every couple of years. It would need to be for a 20ga at that..
I'll do a wood dowl, 400, 800 grit.
My thoughts are the tube itself is smooth enough as is, but the edges needed to be deburred, and no matter how much I try I can't get the inside edge as smooth as I think it should be, that's were something spinning inside would come in, reverse the rotation a few times and now the edges are rounded over and smooth..

Got it down to some worn 800 grip paper, mainly to smooth out and high spots and edges of the hols and slots, JB-WELD filled the stamping less AMERICAN CLASSIC and paining.. this will be the tube I build the Backpacker with. If I ever get the steel breech and 12" barrel from Alliance Hobby. Man he is slow.. I totally get the custom made parts, but stuff that don't require work could be shipped out.

So you haven’t gotten the parts from him yet?

I take it you’ve been waiting for over a month, right?

I was going to order 2 parts from him, so I sent him an email, asking if they them in stock. Since I got no response I assumed they weren’t.

Seems when something isn't in stock it says no longer available on the website, you can't get 12" barrel from crosman anymore, so I would have thought he had bout up a bunch to have on hand, if he didn't don't advertise them.. I'll give it to the first of March and I'll ask for a refund and see if I get it.

I got a response from him just now after a follow-up inquiry, so I’ll be ordering the said parts: brass 22xx/13xx trigger blade and 22xx/13xx grip frame.

So, my OEM Crosman grip frames have all been “decasted” and powdercoated, but I have none that is  metallic silver or metallic silver grey in color.

I don’t like the vein PC; it only looks nice on metal furniture but is somewhat chintzy on guns.

What I want is the textured/wrinkled silver, which doesn’t seem to be available in Abq., although the last time I checked them out——when I had 2 grips and some parts PC’d——was almost 4 years ago.

Satin silver and satin black are extremely nice on these pockmarked Crosman grips though and will hide imperfections, but I’ve always had a thing for wrinkled/textured finish.

I have 2 satin black grips and a tube with a satin silver in PC that look fantastic.

PC seems to be the best paint ideal for these zamak grips, although Cerakote or Alumahyde might work too, but they’re too thin to cover those blowholes and imperfections.

I haven’t tried grill or engine paint; some claim to have success, but zamak/pot metal is very tricky to have paint stick to it because of its “oily” nature.

I got an older 1322 tube, has deep stamping, filed down and filled in all of it but the Crosman logo and the AMERICAN CLASSIC, got it painted Flat Black with a bit of texturing (after main coat dries mist it from about 2 foot away to give a speckled birds egg texture, after days of curing ill try and fill in with White paint to highlight the lettering.
Making a remake of the old 2289 Backpacker with 12" barrel and not the 14.6"
Should be a fun carbine.
