GTA Site Performance Update

Hello all

I've been monitoring the forum performance for some time (since I took it over in 2022) and have been making changes behind the scenes to adapt to the changing dynamic of AI Learning, Bots, Spiders, and regular users.  Here's where we stand today.

I've implemented some stringent controls, blocking large IP ranges suspected of AI learning and Harvesting. That has seemed to work.  My server admins tell me that I may have also blocked legitimate traffic, so I'm going to be refining those rules over the next several weeks.  You may see a spike in "guest" traffic while I make these adjustments.  If you encounter an error, please PM me or your favorite moderator with the time, date, and details, which will really help me narrow things down.   I've also implemented several upgrades to the server VPS, allocating more cores, RAM, and storage.  On paper, we should be able to handle whatever comes our way. (within reason)

Now, on to some airgun news.

I spent some time on the range yesterday (when was your last trip to the range backyard, basement, or otherwise?) and shot some .177 PCPs.  I shot the Gamo Arrow .177 and the BSA Goldstar. 

Can you all tell which gun shot which target below?

Rick, that is some fine shooting - whichever rifle shot whichever target.  A squirrel would not survive.
Just for the fun of guessing, I say the BSA Goldstar was used for the first target.
Side note:  I think those JTS Dead Center pellets are Matt Manning's favorites.

Thanks for guessing.. I'll let everyone know tomorrow (or probably Monday) which target goes with which rifle.

I love the JTS pellets in a lot of guns.

Rick, thank you and the Admins for all the work you do to keep the GTA running optimally.

Historically BSA rifles have been very accurate, so I too would guess that the top target is from the BSA Goldstar.

Hey there all, and good morning.

So, which target was shot with which gun? 

The JSBs were shot from the Gamo Arrow, and the JTSs were shot with the BSA.  But there's a catch!  The Gamo was set up with the ATN LTV 5-15, and the BSA is set up with a Hawke Frontier 5-25.  So, I wonder what the results would be with those reversed??  Anyway, I'll have some videos out soon with those guns.

Well, Harry, we figured right. 
Side note:  I have been using the JSBs for squirrel hunting for years.  I may have to give the JTS pellets a try next season.

I was thinking the same thing Mike    All I have used the last 12 years is JSB and AA when I couldn't find JSB because they are made by JSB.
