"Easter egg" peep sight...!

As a card-carrying old person, I can vouch that the classic joke about "hiding your own Easter eggs" is true some days! But forgotten tidbits can lead to interesting things.

After seeing a friend's similar setup, I recently bought this Anschutz adapter (part no. SA-1411 for anyone interested), which mates 11mm grooves to old Redfield sights made for firearm receiver side rails. So the beautiful "Olympic" diopter hiding in my stash now magically fits my Weihrauchs. The eyepiece is a Merit adjustable iris:




It did require a front sight riser for the elevation settings to work out, though. So here's the Weihrauch barrel...with a Walther riser I'd forgotten I had...and an Anschutz front tunnel sight. The latter is much more versatile than HW's tunnel, with a greater selection of inserts and accessories available.




These acrylic Anschutz sight inserts (right in this pic), and the slotted "flex" sleeve that they snap into (lower left) were acquired separately, and years apart...but I only recently realized that they go together! The clear inserts don't fit the normal "solid" sleeve for clamping metal inserts (top left):






The end result is a setup that works great on this HW 55 CM, allows a very comfortable head's-up hold, and even looks kinda cool to my eye:

Very nice, Mike! i'm also a sucker for these old steel sights. The HW55CM is such a precision instrument, it deserves a quality micrometer sight.
