72° here now with moderate rain. I have emptied 8" of rain out of the rain gauge this week and more on the way today. I need the rain not the flooding if this keeps up.

Today's temperature is forecast to be MUCH COOLER than yesterday. Sun and clouds mixed, a high of 78°F with 32% humidity and winds SW at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

 It is currently 56°F on my back deck.

  Tomorrows forecast currently is showing a high of just 67°F.

We are 75°F with 27% humidity at 4:15 PM today, overnight it is supposed to dip into the high 40°'s

It's 52°F on my back deck at 6:38 AM

When I started working in television years ago I knew a weatherman named Connor Vernon who was pretty darn good.  He worked for a station in Dothan Alabama and he would never predict less than a 20% chance of rain each day.  Now inevitably it would rain in some part of that station’s broadcast coverage area everyday and some irritated person would call the station to complain about the accuracy of the forecast.  Connor would tell them “I predicted 20% chance of rain and you got the 20%!”

About 15 years ago Fritz Coleman was our Standup Comedian for a company dinner where I worked. He was a NBC LA Weatherman for 40 years. He’s made 8 appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno and is a 5 time Emmy Award Winning Stand-Up Comedian.

 He said Stand-up is much harder than weather forecasting because no one expects the weatherman to be right but everyone expects comedians to be funny.

That IS how the percentage is defined. It means 20% of the forecast region gets the precip, not that 100% of the region has a 20% chance of it.

But forecasters do have to change approaches after getting enough flack from complainers. Another example:  When I was paddling the Inside Passage (SE AK), I commented to the others in our little pod, "Why does EVERY day's wind forecast call for 10 knots or more?" We had had several days of very little wind, like under 5 mph. The answer was that NOAA previously did forecast calm days, until they were inevitably wrong and people curmudgeoned about storm winds and rough seas, etc.

That infernal wind just keeps on. 30 mph gusts today, Friday, Saturday...this after 3 days in a row already.

We had a line of fast moving thunder storms move thru at around 3 pm.
All clear now.
No tornadoes in my town.... but there were tornadoes associated with this storm in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Hot and humid. Had to pull the gator in the air conditioned shop to put the winch and cup holders on. Gonna go ahead and clean it up real good while it's in there.
