Is gone.
I met President Carter in 1978 while I was stationed in West Berlin.
Rosalyn, too.
What a lovely couple.

No worries.
I was just reviewing my notes from 1978.
I was in the color guard when they stepped off of Air Force One at Templehof Central Airport (Zentralflughoffen).
The president spoke with me for just a few seconds.

I just heard it an hour or so ago. ☹️
They quietly worked on philanthropic projects for decades even after his presidency. I first learned of something called the guinea worm in relation to one of those. Kudos to those who serve humankind "just because."

President Carter is probably the person most responsible for the tremendous progress made in eradicating Guinea worm. Like all truly great men he was very humble. I think the whole story of his accomplishments will surprise a lot of people. My mother met him twice after he left office and my cousin met him once. We are distantly related. Our two lines of the Carter family divide "before the war" as we say down here. I feel privileged to share a last name.
