   I have put a lot of squirrel & rabbit meat in a pot in my lifetime. Most all of mine have been with a Sheridan Streak. Adjustable power means that I don't have to choose which air rifle I need to go buy, to get the job done. 3 pumps for target shooting, 5 for small game , & up to 8 pumps for larger game, longer distance shooting, etc. I typically use 5 pumps.
   I am a disabled vet & get free hunting/fishing licenses.

Local laws followed ,it is more about how far you can constantly hit a dime, that is my main rule, +-12 FPE is plenty.

And do you put the required slice of cheese on your apple pie?  kidding of course.   

A slice of sharp cheddar on a piece of Apple pie is a requirement.
Some are confused / repulsed by it... Then a waitress at a restaurant once said "Are you German?"
I replied with "Look at this square head... what do you think?!"

For many years it was thought to be a law in Wisconsin.. it has since been proven not to be.
However, there is a law against substituting margerine for butter without the patron's permission.

Oh, and snowball fighting is also illegal there.

Yep... matter of fact, Betty Lou found a recipe requiring oleo. We went to the store looking for oleo and nobody at the store had even heard of it except one old guy in the produce department.
Kinda like lard... many folks have no idea what it even is. Then we had shortening and Crisco.

I learned of oleo, back during my college days, when I used to do crossword puzzles in the local Sunday news paper.

You will need to head shoot them with a 177, in fact even high power 25 cal will not anchor them in their tracks unless head shot.  My friend had the same problem and asked me to shoot them for him.  I took over a couple small box traps baited with bird food and caught 15 in a month.  Relocated them and everyone wins.  You do not need a hunting license on your own property to shoot any pest in most states.

I've shot many a squirrel with my HW30 and 2400KT. Both put out 6-7 fpe.  Taken them out to 25 yards with head shots.

In North Carolina, the 2024–2025 squirrel hunting season dates are:

    Gray and Red Squirrels: October 14, 2024–February 28, 2025
    Spring Squirrel Season (Gray Squirrel) Private Lands: May 12–May 26, 2025

Here are some other things to know about squirrel hunting in North Carolina:

    The daily limit for squirrels is eight, and there are no possession or season limits.

You can shoot squirrels that are causing property damage without a license.
Landowners don't need a license to hunt on their own property.
You must wear a hat or outer garment made of 100% orange material visible from all sides when hunting with a firearm.
Some municipalities, like Charlotte and Raleigh, have laws that prohibit hunting animals within city limits.

In Florida there is no longer a season for gray squirrel.  Squirrel is now lumped in with rabbit, wild hog, raccoon, possum, skunk, nutria, beaver, and coyote as varmints.  They can all be hunted year round on private land by any legal means (including air guns).  There is a bag limit of twelve per day and a possession limit of 24 for squirrels and rabbits but you can shoot as many of the rest as you like.

This AM I noticed 5 squirrels gorging at my bird feeders.  I cranked the bedroom window open and fired a pellet at a cookie baking sheet hanging near the feeder.   All the squirrels took off except for one (the largest one) who moved about a foot from the feeder and then quickly went back to eating.   A couple more shots at the cookie sheet and that squirrel stopped reacting at all.   The FWB 601 is pretty quite so I took a couple shots at the cookie sheet with a noisier CO2 pistol, no reaction.    I wanted that fat pig of a squirrel out of there so I fired off a couple shots with a .22LR  pistol.   I can't believe he only looked up for an instant and went right back to eating.   Maybe he's old and hard of hearing.

I do find them a little entertaining and they aren't damaging the property.   They're just eating a lot.   Shooting them would be easy.   Skinning, gutting and getting them cooking is much less easy.
