HW30s rear sight cover plate--??

I don't think anyone is making those anymore. There was  time when they were available. I happen to be lucky enough to have one or two of them, but I'm not letting go.




If you can find a really good machinist, you can make some screw cover screws. I had some custom made for my own use. It's an odd thread - 0.5 x 5mm if I remember correctly, but get back with me on that for verification.




These screws came standard with an an Air Rifle Headquarters rifle that was adapted to a Williams rear diopter sight, but have not been seen since. Many inquiries here on GTA for those screws to cover up the open holes if you use a scope or full rear mount sight.

HW30s with rear Williams sights. One with elevation knob, one with screw elevation. You can get parts to make them either way. And, you can get parts to make them knob adjustable for windage as well.

Some people use the tube end of a black Bic ball point pen to fill them.
I have also heard of people filling them with black putty.

Send one to China and they can knock them in no time.
When Bob Beeman was selling them he used SAE screws.
But the R1 (In my case) had metric screws.
Bob included adaptors.
Another option.
Get some German flag stickers to cover the holes.
Although I have the plate on my R1, I still put flags of the air arms originating country:

That first picture is the one I have on my other HW30s, its  a plate and 2 hex screws. I dont want just 2 screws to fill in the holes l. And certainly dont want to fill the holes with anything or a German Flag .  So IF anyone does have a spare they can part with I would gladly pay for one .

I just remembered that the plate comes with inserts for the 0.5mm (thread) x 5mm (length/depth) and separate screws to mount the late into those inserts.

I don't know if this will work with a HW30 but this is how I sealed the rear sight holes in my HW95.

I wasn' looking for "pretty", just sealing the barrel pivot from water when shooting.........
R9 pivot block holes.........


After sealing with M5x.5 set screws and some black RTV rubber in the sight locating pin hole..........


My brother used automotive plastic "caps" to cover the sight mounting holes (I believe that he filled the dowel hole with RIG grease...............

The breech hole plug screws are easy to make, a Chinese made die M5x1.5 easy to find, and if you can live with brass screws, the die will hold up well. If you need the original phosphated black steel screw, the die may wear out sooner?
The cover plate itself is easy to make...BUT...the cover plate is attached with a two piece socket head flat screw, seated in a M5x1.5 grub screw that's holed, and hard-to-find or make unless you're a talented machinist.
I suspect this is why these have not be available yet?
You can get that socket head flat screw from ARH Maccari, it's the same as used on the FWB 120 series rear sight.

Last time this came up, I bought a bag of the black plastic furniture 5mm push in and sent some to anybody who wanted some.

I think I still have some, if anybody wants some just PM me.

You may have to file the plastic insert a little - they fit tight

A 1.4 brass set screw would probably with a wound of tape or a dab of weak Loctite.

I wouldn't try anything but the 1.5mm thread. If you try something other than that, you may end up getting it so stuck that it won't come out and then you'll end up messing up the barrel getting them back out.

Before I had mine custom made, I ordered some M5 x 1.5mm screws from china. Considered cutting them down and slotting the end. Never got around to it as I found someone to make them. He made me about a dozen or so (he's a machinist). He said he'd never do it again as some of the slots were not perfectly centered and he struggled too much with it.
