I just got a free new to me a Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro printer.
It did not come with the fliament spool and I am a newby to 3D printers.
So my first question - what filament should I get ? PETG ?
I want to try to make a Akela shroud 1/2 inch adapter for a suppressor as my first project.
Both Torquemaster and Subscriber have helped me with design and printing in the past, so I hope they have suggestions.
Thanks for the help.

Congrats on the new toy and welcome to another rabbit hole lol.
I would start off with some simple prints to get use to the printer. Benchy’s or what maybe included with the printer as pre-sliced files (if it came with the memory card).
But then pull down some files of things that you want to print- there are several sites (thingaverse, printables, etc). Guessing that the brand either comes with its own software slicer or can run Orcaslicer.
Do some reading into what others are using for filament brands. I’ve always had good luck using Elegoo rapid PLA- and it’s fairly cheap (run it in all of my printers with no issues (several different manufacturers). Read up on filaments as well- some need air ventilation or filters because of chemicals. PLA and PETG are considered safer materials to work with.
Just be ready for failures- even with the best machines, failures occur. Sometimes it’s not the printer but the print file. And sometimes you may need extra bed adhesion - glue stick, hairspray. Depending on what you are trying to make and the material you are using.
Best of luck on this adventure! There are so many amazing things out there to print.
Here is a video from Aurora tech on your printer if you haven’t watched it already. They put out some good honest videos (some very talented youth).
Good luck! And enjoy the new toy!
(Ps- it’s ok to get frustrated)

Robert, that printer should be great for airgun parts. As a blanket recommendation, I suggest PETG. For your moderator adaptor you may need a material that is not just stronger but more creep resistant. That could mean carbon fiber filled PETG, or machined from metal.
Before I scare you with "creep", I would like to see a dimensioned sketch of your proposed design. What I am seeing in my mind's eye might be a little dainty for the bending loads induced when hanging a moderator from the part, but I may be imagining something other than you intend.

Before you dive into the more exotic carbon fiber filaments, take a look at Bob's comprehensive thread on filament strength. Note that carbon fiber may be a little misleading since the carbon segments are typically .008" long or less.

Layer to layer (Z direction) strength is your limiting factor.
