Best Time for Squirrels?

Does anyone know when the best time to hunt for squirrels is? I was curious so I know how early to get up tommorow. :p Thanks in advance!

No specific time from my experience. Morning, noon, afternoon or evening works well. If they're around they'll appear anytime, unless it's over 100 during the summer then they tend to only be out in the morning and hunker down in the shade until it cools down in the evening.

True you never know, very cold they may come out later . Some say morning and late in the day and it depends where their drey is

Well I've seen one or two that will cross through the yard every now and then. I set up a a small baiting station with some peanuts and bread. Hopefully they'll be at it in the morning!

That worked well for me.  They like to run along my fence along the tree line... so I put a little baiting station there.  Just put a little peanut butter and bird seed mixed together.  Within an hour I had a squirrel there... and another not long after that.

Well I didn't have any seed at the house, so I substituted cashews. :p Hopefully it works, haha

Put a little peanut butter out along with some crushed up corn chips or bread.  They will come.

Squirrels tend to be most active in the mornings and evenings. I usually start hunting at daylight and the squirrel activity increases from then until around 10 am or so. Then it kinda slacks off through the middle of the day and picks back up in the last few hours of daylight. But it's not unusual to see some at just any old time, or not at all. Sometimes they just hunker down and dont move.

I can tell you with a high degree of confidence that the slowest time to hunt squirrels is usually between 11am and 1pm, but it really depends on the weather.  I rarely see a squirrel after 11:30am, and "almost" never (there have been exceptions) spotted one between Noon and 1pm.  But at the height of winter, with single digit temps or teens, they may come out when it's the warmest, or when the sun comes out, and that may fall around Noon-1pm, so you never know.  The highest probability of running into them is shortly after the sun comes up and throughout the morning hours like 6-11am, and 1-4pm in the afternoon.

Around here they seem to be early morning to mid day, seldom in the afternoon or evening.

I've see them mostly here when the sun is full out in the winter.  Some of it I feel is because there are so many owl and predator birds here.  One hawk scream and squirrel hunting is usually done for the day.  Also if it is foggy or nasty, they tend to wait until there is a peek of sun.  

The local squirrels (the non-wild kind) tend to come out after everyone has went to work!  That way they sow mayhem without being caught!  The sleep late, then have a late breakfast.  Perhaps an afternoon nap, and if they feel like it they'll go raid a bird feeder just before dark.

Went to my brother in-laws house and it was a windy day and they don'nt like the wind they tend to stay in their nest when it's windy,he has squirrel problems at his house and wants me to rid of them at least some of them.

This has been my experience as well. I try and be in the woods within 30 minutes of daylight, unless it is a steady rain, and late afternoon two hrs. bf sunset. Temperature does not seem to effect their activity as much as wind does. Baiting may be a good instrument to see when they become active around your area. Happy Hunting.

here 9am seems to be the magic hour. i would say start around 7am and hunt til done or tired, or about noon. they seem to be the most active in the mornings when it's not too windy, hot, cold, rainy, etc. kinda like me. if it's nice out i like being out in the morning too.

Well all the food is gone, but it sure wasn't because of the squirrels! Small bird tracks were found...this means war.

Also, I didn't get up early enough to see what exactly ate the food, but theres bird tracks around where the food was. ^^^^
