Installed a ARH Magnum kit in my HW80 kinda honky?

As the titles says I installed an ARH Magnum kit in my HW80 today using a VAC seal. I've fired about 75 shots through it and it's making a slight squeeky/honk sound when I cock the rifle, is this normal and will it go away or do you think I under lubed it? I did the standard Valvoline full synthetic moly lube on the mainspring, spring guide and top hat, a light film on the piston and a really light film around the bottom side of the piston seal (just a little grease on my finger tip). The rifle is functioning fine other than that and the kit eliminated ALL spring twang. It just makes a big POP when it fires. Thanks guys👍

Yeah, Valvoline? Quaker State man huh, or maybe Pennzoil? LOL  Seriously, what brand of moly grease do you prefer?  I bought a lifetime supply of this Valvoline Synthetic Moly earlier this year and It's worked great👍!

The front of the piston seal was a little dry. As the grease migrates forward, the honking will disappear.

Just my opinion based on OTHER spring piston rifles...

The honking during cocking is not caused by over or under lubrication, but lubrication can affect it. It is mainly due to piston seal fit and flexibility.

I've have had several different springers HONK and it was 1) or 2) for my rifles, but 3) could also be a factor:

1) Piston seal just a little too loose-fit
2) Piston seal material just a little TOO SOFT for rifle energy (Magnum springers require harder tighter fitting piston seals)
3) Either the comp tube is ever-so-slightly out-of-round (or the seal is) and a new piston seal leaks slightly in reverse. After "wearing in" the seal and tube "mate" and the honking goes away (several hundred pellets).

Normally air is drawn into the compression tube only through the transfer port when the rifle is cocked. If the piston seal is the right material and fit for the comp tube there is NO HONKING. Maybe a barely perceptible hiss from air entering the transfer port?

When the piston seal is too loose or too soft (or a little of each) air rushes through the transfer port AND around the piston seal. The "parachute seal lip" vibrates as the air passes around it and we get the Honking Goose sound.

Now, this does not mean the piston seal is BAD for the rifle! If shot performance is at SPEC, consistent, and accuracy is good then I would NOT look for another seal. I'd just accept that particular rifle will honk during the cocking stroke.

My ONLY concern, and it has NOT been a problem yet, is if air can travel around the piston seal so can my spring grease. A honking rifle MAY be occasionally dieseling a little spring grease. Not enough dieseling to cause any damage, but maybe enough to increase ES and SD? Again, this has NOT been a problem for me but is something to be aware of.

If you have some friends who regularly hunt geese you can offer to go out with them and use your rifle to call the geese in ;-)

My LGV started honking a few years back. It was about 12 months old. I put two drops of silicone oil down the in the chamber and did the same as Frank.First shot wasn’t loud however the honk never returned.
