Wes,I have had my R1 since 1984.I raised two combat veterans with that rifle.I did not know anything about twang until I joined GTA around 2011.All of my springers are as they were when they left the factories.Check the list.I enjoy twang, whatever it is:
I don't mind a little twang either. Congratulations on your new rifle.
Tuner up Wes, she'll be fine!

Since I talked with you last, I fired quite a few more pellets through her and she's still dieseling like a new rifle? Do you think it might gain a little power once I put a tin of pellets through it? If it doesn't, I'm thinking a new piston and breech seal might be in order, but if I have to install those I might as well install a hotrod spring too👍😁

When it stops it should slow down. After 50-75 pellets you should stop seeing smoke in the breech when you reload.-Y
1 000 pellets is a good initial course for any new quality springer, I agree. Many guns go through a semi-miraculous transformation from it, no tuning involved. Severe twang from ill-fitting guides doesn't go away, though. On a factory-lubed gun, dieseling affects the MV's long past any visible dieseling. In my experience, they never stop getting extra oomph from ignited petroleum products, 1 000 or 2 000 pellets in and all. That takes a thorough degrease and relube job (usually reseal, as well) to happen. ETA: I see Wes' 80 is not new, only new to him. But having no detailed info on the gun's use and maintenance history, much of the above would apply.
