best bait for winter crows?

ok, so i want to get myself a couple of crows around so i can pop em and see how they taste. there's something that is locally available that could work, and it's chicken bones. i live close to a fried chicken joint, its right within walking distance. i also happen to save some chicken joints, and i have some rich purina dog food, you know, the stuff with the bits and pieces of lamb in it. but, is this good enough for those winter time crows?

do you have a caller? might try calling them in to bring attention to your bait. they will eat about anything. they love some french fries.

Johnny I highly recommend road killed carcasses for your crow attractant. A deer carcass will draw all kinds of scavengers and predators to clean up the remains. The benefits of using a road killed carcass: 1) they are readily available for cheap. 2) You do your highway a favor by cleaning up the mess. 3) you will attract a variety of critters including but not limited to foxes, coyotes, rats, buzzards, CROWS, eagles, european starlings. 4) you get a lot of bait at one time which will continue to draw your target species until the bait is exhausted. The negatives are: 1) you need a pick up truck which not everybody has. 2) you need a proper place to dump and monitor the bait. 3) you might need a strong stomach if the bait gets too "ripe". 4) The coyotes and buzzards might make fast work of your bait. Good luck on getting your crow.

roadkill? hmm.... i dont know about that, i dont have a pickup i can use to get them in, and i am not sure i can find it all the time. occasionally theres some roadkill around but ive never thought about picking them up and using them as crow bait. i could try killing a couple of squirrels and saving whats left of them. starling have work a little bit, as the place i dump whatevers left after i breast them out has crows always close to it. but they have sat for a couple of days before even being noticed. oh, and theres a pesky feral cat that gets in my trash. however, it's usually around at nighttime, and i dont know where it goes in the daytime.

I find bread works well... I usually keep the pieces fairly close to each other but out in an open area so they can see it well.
