Going thru my 400, (finally). Last owner had used a pliers to remove p/n 180-14, locating screw. I added some wrench flats to the 7/16 diameter center boss to ease assembly/ disassembly. Upon further inspection, I found the short threaded end of the screw was too long and would not allow the tapered diameter above the threads to properly center the valve relative to exhaust port. I was going to make a washer type alignment bushing to fit the tapered section but found the difference in hole to boss size to be negligible. Instead, I found that by removing .015” from the short threaded end of the screw, the exhaust port lined up much better. If the screw was left long it allows the valve body seal area to extend into the pressure tube’s through hole causing a possible leak. Also, this screw is the anchor for the valve body along with the 586-113 outer o-ring.

Took another .015” off the end of the locating screw for a little better valve fit up. Got the 400 back in action. Need to either get or make another 6-40 screw for the rear sight. Had to make a new seer spring as the one that was in it just had 2 straight tangs, and the previous owner had put 1/16 pins in the seer pin holes instead of roll pins. Got about 30 full power shots out of one fill and RWS Meisterkugeln’s work pretty much flawlessly in the mag shuttle. Put one cart in again to see how it holds overnight. Pretty good shooter! Should get about 60 full power shots on 2 carts. I think that I have a Weaver 4X scope with mounts from a Blue Streak that I can adapt to this. I had gotten a Red Ryder for the grandkids to use, but it proved to be to hard to cock. They will probably like this one much better.
