XS46U 5.5mm/.22

For a time times and a half I have thought of adding a Underlever Air rifle to what I have. But I never took any action into buying one. Not long ago I had ordered a refurbished XS25S.22, but... The Universe thought it was time I get an Underlever Air Rifle in the form of the XS46U.
Starting with an inspection, looks good no rust or any damage other than a couple scratches on the stock. Otherwise looks new.
Handling is Heavy I can feel my arms after enough shots through. The forearm and pistol grip area are wider than what I'm normal to. The Fiber Insert Open Sights, rear is numbered click adjustable. The rear elevation adjustment is reverse of what I am normal to.
It took awhile to get normalized to the operation of the XS46U. The handle on the lever is pulled down to release the catch which holds the lever in place. Caulking the Underlever is not too heavy. At the rear of the rifle is a automatic safety thumb knob which is to be pushed forward to release the cocking lever once the air rifle has been caulked. The Fire Safety is Automatic in front of the trigger and in a way acts as a first trigger. The trigger on the one I have is light and short in travel though it does not let me know when it's going off. Still not bad non adjustable trigger.
The crown on the muzzle appears to be rough. By rough I mean there is a sharp edge right where the crown taper begins. I've seen this many times on Air rifles that are MIChina and MITurkiye. I get good hits but once in awhile one of the Beeman Round Nose 14.7gr will hit off to the side. The BRN 14.7gr have good consistent fit and shape So I'm very sure that the flyers are caused by the rough crown. I added 6 of 175ct tins of the Beeman Round Nose just for this one air rifle. This order was placed with DCPISales, they sell low priced refurbished airguns. Only thing is your order must be over $100.
I have around 80+ shots through. I do need to do some work not much. Recrown the muzzle, super glue the wood contact points for the stock screws and threadtape the stock screws to keep them from backing out. I'm sure this thing throwing flyers was the reason for it being refurbished. I'm sure Alot of refurbies are perfectly fine and maybe the first owner knew squat didley on scope mounting and couldn't get a group within first 20 or so shots, or the inaccurate rough crowns which are easy to fix. Just maybe ...
Excellent Work Stay Alert

Today I recrowned the Muzzle. The first attempt was not good using the stone bit as the plastic muzzle cap plasticrown was interfering with a straight cut. So I had to reface using a long round metal bit to get the crown sort of level. I then used the round ende to reface the entire surface of the bad cut crown. So now it has a deep round crown...
It does good better than before the recrown.
I have shot exactly 176 times since yesterday. 175 of Beeman Round Nose 14.7gr. The 1 CPUM 14.3gr I tried was much too tight fitting.
I mounted the Pinty 6-24x50mm AO MD IR which is the longest heaviest scope I have ever owned. It seemed to do good, I do need to check how other pellets will do. Ill try a couple other scopes ; Barska 2-7x32mm AOMD will be one and possibly a Hammers 3-9x32mm AOMD.

Pic was taken as the Sun was setting so it's a dark pic, I'll get a better one up when the time is right

31°F
I shot 14 times to bring the shot count up to 200 I then gathered the following chrono numbers.
200 shots in
Beeman Round Pellets
BRP 14.7gr
1. 499
2. 497
3. 499
4. 500
5. 505
6. 499
7. 509
8. 497
9. 504
10. 505
Spread < 12 FPS
Avg 501 FPS
8.2 FPE
Good low FPS Spread.
I had an inkling this would be shooting closer to 600 FPS. But still good for close work.
Good for small things within 20 yards, at 27 there is around 1.25+" of drop < chairgun app> .
The breech leade on this XS46U has good taper and has a tight fit. I think HN Excite Plinker 13.0gr would do good knowing they have a light fit. The tight leade will limit the usable pellet types I have. I can already think of a handful that would fit too tight.
When I get around to it I'll check velocity and FPS Spread with other pellets.

Hey Nuk... those numbers look awfully low, unless the gun was set up to shoot in the 500s... (canadian gun?). a Tunes 46 in .22 can spit 15.9 in the 650 range all day long, and even if it was detuned to say, 12 fpe, you should be in the 600 fps range with those pellets... i would look at the spring (as your numbers seem pretty consistent) to see if its been cut. or reassemble it after running your seal thru some gentle abrasive paper, just enough to take a little diameter off and maybe reduce drag.

lillysdad621,
Thankyou for your reply. I know this AG was popular some time ago before I got into Airguns. From reading a couple pages I found 2 numbers the 15.89 @ 680 and the 650 you mention. For now the XS46U will have to wait until spring or whenever the temperature is warm enough for the wood stock.
I found my UX Blackhawk was underpowered but very consistent. The piston seal has a clean cut on one side. I still need to order a new seal for that air rifle.
At a later time I'll open this one up to see what is going on .
Excellent Work lillysdad621
