new 2100 trouble

I was able to get a new 2100 direct from Crosman for about $53 shipped with a code. Been wanting one so it seemed like a good deal. Unfortunately when I tried using it there was an issue, the bolt wouldn’t go all the way forward. Usually there’s a “click” when it is properly engaged. I thought it might be an easy fix but now the more I look at it, seems either the bolt probe head is not quite right, or more likely, the throat of the barrel isn’t machined sufficiently wide.

Think I’m going to just call Crosman next week and try to exchange the gun. It’s a shame because otherwise everything else looks good quality and the sights are straight but I guess you get a lemon  sometimes.

Quality and quality control on the orient made 2100's is not what it was on those made in the States.
The only new one I have played with had a real tight sliding bolt.

They have had a problem with the receiver screws being over-tightened.......
Dunno if that could cause your woes or not......

My experience with my Chinese made Legacy 1000's was not good.  Fit and finish were well below the standard of my American made 2100.  In my experience the bolt was very stiff at first on the Legacys but that it broke in with use.  If you aren't comfortable rooting around in the internals of a 2100 send it back to Crosman.  I got over my fear of going inside the clamshell earlier this year when I tuned my 2100 with Ron's help.  I had the gun apart so many times during that process that I'm not intimidated by it anymore.  I'd poke around in the guts and see if I could spot anything obviously wrong.

There is a little bit of plastic excess overmold extending slightly around the tip of the metal bolt probe, surely that’s not causing the obstruction/ failure to seat all the way??

if I recall,the bolt lever has a step at the rear that should pop out and contact the back of the slot to pretty much lock the bolt closed.
If the bolt is not sliding all the way forward, this may not happen.
Cap'n Carter had a bolt that would not close completely because the very front edge of the sliding port cover was a tad long.
Trimming it back a skosh cured that problem. But the gun must be disassembled to do this......

The "metal probe" is actually the magnet. That bit of plastic should not be posing a problem......

I'd forgotten about the bolt cover being too long.  I trimmed about 1/32" off the end and it fit perfectly after that.

So I call Crosman, they offer to send a new one which is great. But it shows up and the front sight is canted in the shroud around the 2 o’clock position. Disappointing, but I’ll call and just buy the parts to fix the guns. Try to get a new barrel and shroud but I’m told they don’t carry those parts anymore (made in China.) I’m told they may be sourced “after the transition.” Eesh.

No, they were nice enough to send a new one that is functional but the sights are very canted. You can see a lot of the different parts on the Chinese model as I got ‘21 and ‘22. I might try swapping parts or tinkering later but I’m gonna put it on the back burner for a while. I’ve got more than enough airguns to plink with for now.

Simple enough to swap the shroud w/front sight.......Remove 1 screw to remove the clamshells.
The shroud/front sight will slide tight off..........

Didn't feel like making a new thread but wanted to update my last 3 project guns.

First was my grandpas old 760 from the nineties. I got it working last year with ample pellgun oil but it wasn't making pressure when I tried it. I thought for sure it was a valve o ring but a few videos i watched suggested its a bad rubber pump cup on the piston. Sure enough, that was all I needed to fix it. (Crazy that these shrink a little over time, I'll definitely order a bunch of extras.) It also had a very wobbly fitted grip forearm and I found seating some small strips  of a cutup rubber exercise band fixed the excess play. I almost wrecked the linkage arm from some hammering but that's another story.

Second was the US made 2100, I had recently fixed the bolt interfacing by polishing the barrel feedthroat a little bit larger with a dremel but it had also acquired some wobble on the forearm from previous hammering I guess.    Took it off and carefully added some strips of the latex band and it has a solid fit now.

The third was the Chinese 2100. Its sights are a bit off like i said but I was able to adjust them so it's workable just a bit goofy looking. It developed some rough scraping noises in the piston area while pumping though. In my experience the piston cutout slot on the pump tube usually is rough with some burs so I decided to polish that with fine grit sandpaper. Put it back together, still makes a little noise pumping but I think its just the material of the plastic piston. Good enough for now though maybe I'll order a metal legacy piston down the road.

Order a 362 piston.
It has a delrin bearing at the pivot end to prevent metal-to-metal scraping.
I believe the p/n is 362-102
