Gamo vs Hatsan

Not to bash Hatsan, but I will never buy one of their products anymore. It's not bad, but no so good either.

I have owned the Hatsan Flash, the AT-P1, the Airtact and the 25 SuperTact. You get what you pay for.

While the AT-P1 and the Airtact were actually quite okay-ish, nothing really to complain about, I have recently bought a Gamo IGT airgun. And the difference in quality control and fit and finish of the Gamo is way above Hatsan's products, while they are in the same price band.

Honestly, I was impressed by the Gamo quality. Lot's of people don't like the brand, but for the money they really sell quality products. Even the blueing is close to German standards. And, albeit no match grade trigger, the Gamo CAT trigger is okay enough for doing the job.

I can compare the Gamo also with my German springers (2x HW97k, 1x HW50s, 1x D34 and a Walther Terrus) and it is clearly a made in Europe product.

I have a Gamo Varmint that is a solid shooter for about 100 bones. It clearly doesn't measure up to HW or Diana but then I didn't pay for one of those. It sounds as though Gamo gives you an honest deal for the inexpensive amount paid while Hatsan is cheap AND inexpensive.

I agree. I've owned a Hatsan Jet1 and a Q44 long PCPs as well as a Gamo Urban and 2 Gamo Swarm Maxims ( G1 & G2). The Gamos were much better made  AND more accurate. The Jet 1 poppet valve broke and the Q44 was bulky and a real air hog.

 I have 3 of Hatsan Air rifles; Alpha- new type, Striker .25 and a 125Vortex .25. I also had a Striker .22 that was sold to one of my Airgun Buddies.
 Ik heb 5 of Gamo Air rifles; Varmint, Wildcat Whisper .177 + .22, Swarm Whisper .22, Varmint Power .22. I also had a Rocket IGT that now has a different owner.
 
Hatsan- ok, But not the best in any category. Have recrowned and redone the breech leade on the ones I have. Parts might be hard to find..idk the included scopes are unclear and the included scope mounts are funny, like whoever chose the included rings you should be fired. I'm very sure I would not recommend a Hat San and I would Not buy another.

 Gamo- While the triggers are not the best, they can be made good with some adjustment. The breech leade is always straight and even with good taper. I have Not had to add taper to a breech leade or recrown a Gamo Ever...  Included scopes are clear and hold zero and are one of the few included scopes I would trust. The two Gamo scope types I have - the smaller 4x32mm and the longer 4x32mm both do very good compared to a Hats an scope. Gamo Included rings are very good and mount straight and level without cant or lean. Some parts can be found online, seals and springs and some other parts.
  I'd like to add another Gamo in the Whisper Fusion Mach1.22

A Gamo is very average. Trigger is bad out of the box, but with the longer M2.5mm screw it will improve a lot.

I own 3 Hatsan's a Invader Auto, Vectis and Velox.
All are very very much modified by me. Out off the box they are very bad. The Velox is the best of the 3 out of the box.
You will have to need a lathe and skills to make something out of it.

But I have to be honest,  now the Hatsan's are the most used airguns over here. They make interesting airguns, Semi Automatic, lever action and affordable.

But they will never make a good airrifle right out of the box and I think that a lot are to expensive for what you get.

Gamo vs Hatsan... I wrestled with this decision for months when I had the urge to buy a super-magnum springer.
 After reading a few hundred posts about Hatsan hit-or-miss if you get a decent shooter, and the overall poor quality of materials & machining that owners complain about... I decided to go with a Gamo. Gamo Had the Hunter Extreme Pro .22 on sale & I have no regrets. Its all wood & steel like the Hatsans I was comparing to.
But... my biggest negative with Gamo is their lack of parts availability. A 5yr warranty is great for some, buy I prefer to fix my own, rather than shipping & waiting. Ive never heard of a Gamo gas ram failure, and my gun is single-shot, not , magazine-fed, not much to go wrong. I had a Hatsan in my cart a few times, but the Gamo was the right choice for me.

I own Q44 but not shooting much, it is heavy.

Gamo I have a Swarm Magnum, it is accurate but the problem is that it gradually losing speed. To be fair my Crosman gas ram loses speed too. However, gaming does not sell piston seals, I have to send the gun back to fix it

  Ok. I said I was very sure i would not buy another Hatsan. But...

Underpriced - for 167$ New in box. Also the local CCC store is having a October long sale, hardware items 20% off. Soo I bought a new H Mod95V .22.
 
 Other than the stiff lockup during opening and closing I have no complaints. Another is the fiber tube on the Front sight needed to be glued. I also opened the breech leade abit to allow full seating of some pellets. Now pellets load all the way with no skirt protrusion. I have around 120+ shots in since yesterday afternoon.
 Handling is a little heavy but good as it helps steady the shot. Very good very light trigger, nice wood, automatic safety, nice open sights. I've only used low quality pellets but man it's hitting good and hitting hard. I'll get a write-up going after I get some Chrono numbers after enough shots are through. This Mod95 and the Varmint Power are close in power but I think the VP has a little more power.
  I just might get the .177 Model 95, I like this one. Good power, Soo far good accuracy. FUN

Admittedly a somewhat biased poster, I have only 1 Gamo springer. A refurbished Rocket 177 (coil spring) purchased early in my springer education.

Absolutely THE worst shot cycle I have ever experienced in ANY springer period. My teeth are still loose from shooting that rifle. It trashed the cheap scope into PIECES before 50 pellets. Trashed same scope into PIECES AGAIN after I repaired the scope. All seals were good so not a bad piston or breech seal. Rifle only became "shootable" after I heavily modified the internals to remove more than half the spring preload. IMO just WAY OVERSPRUNG for such a lightweight rifle. That rifle became ACCEPTABLE at ~2/3 the rated muzzle energy. Disappointing to me even NOW when I know a lot more about springer physics.

I have MANY OTHER air rifles now, springer-PCP-co2-multipump from DIFFERENT manufacturers and that ONE Gamo has me reluctant (never say never) to buy any more air rifles from Gamo.

Of the MANY OTHER rifles I own and have worked on, most ARE Hatsans(bias) and some of those refurb Hatsans started as bad as that Gamo Rocket. However, the Hatsans were MUCH easier for me to repair/tune to get a smooth shooting rifle close to factory spec.

Hatsan triggers, the simple Gamo/Crosman style (Edge,Striker,older Alpha) or Quattro, are EASY to work on and adjust once you understand how they work.

I haven't had a bad Hatsan barrel yet, but it looks like they are out there. The only 2 barrels I've HAD to recrown were from a Crosman springer and a Beeman CO2.

Parts from HatsanUSA are relatively cheap, but not always available since they have to restock from the parent factory in Turkey. Patience and POLITENESS when dealing with HatsanUSA service and support will get you the best results.

I have several Hatsan PCP rifles and they CAN BE AIR HOGS as shipped from the factory. Mine were adjusted for MAX-POWER as received. LOUD and heavily declining muzzle velocity (Korean cliff?). FAR from the best tune that I needed. A few simple adjustments of the hammer-spring made them EXACTLY what I wanted. For example my AT44-22 and Bullboss-22 now have a nice relatively flat shot curve for 40+ pellets (4x 10 shot mags) from 3000psi to 2000psi.

If higher or lower ME is desired there are MANY tuning suggestions for the Hatsan PCPs which can help.

I can't agree that Hatsan/Gamo prices are comparable because I only buy heavily discounted refurbs or new/old/stock warehouse flush sales. My Hatsans that are equivalent to similar GAMO rifles in FPE were acquired at 30-50% LOWER price than I can currently get from Gamo.

There IS one Gamo springer I DO want to try and have been watching and waiting for the right price. It's the Magnum which should be a really good comparison to a Hatsan Mod125 series rifle (same FPE rating). Still waiting. If I can get one at or under ~$150 it would be a valid comparison IMO. I didn't pay more than $140 for any of my Mod125s. Most close to and a few below $100.

I agree with folks who say Hatsan build quality and factory QC is not very good. I ACCEPT that fact in trade for the lower price AND I enjoy working on air rifles in general. For me it's a win-win.

If anyone is considering a Hatsan and you are unable or unwilling to perform repair and tuning work yourself, DON'T buy a Hatsan!

In terms of Gamo parts, you can get replacement sights (front and rear), seals, replacing springs and gasrams. In case of a Gamo multi shot, you can buy spare magazins too. And this is all widely available. What else would you need indeed ? There are also upgrade trigger sets. So only a replacement barrel or stock is missing. Though i understood from a sales rep from a gun smith / store recently, that basically all replacing parts for Gamo can be ordered.

And yes, I am a DIY illaterite..., so Hatsan no way for me indeed

  I bought the locally available Mod95 in .177 Spring Powered Model. The first was very bad. I had to adjust the sights all the way down and much right. But still it would hit high and left then next shot would hit a different area code, next shot would hit a different zip code... This was by shot 50 and POI was random,,.,, frustrating. I expect to have a decent group by shot 50. So I returned the Mod95 for a replacement.
 The replacement Mod95 is good very good I have around 120+ shots in. By shot 30 I was hitting 30 yard small targets in the field. Abit too loud for backyard plinking. Not sure if my ears were ringing from the few hundred shots in the last few days or if the ringing was from dopamine levels rising as I am near the high in my BP2, or a combination of both... Overshare... H Mod95V is Good for hunting or dealing with pests. I need to shoot my Gamo Varmint Power .22 more often XD
 I have around 250+ shots through the Mod95V .22. the crowns look very rough on the Hatsans, I'm very sure that was the problem with the first Mod95 .177. The two I have do very good with the pellets I've tested even with the rough looking crowns. I will recrown the barrels at a later time.
