I had to change the name of the club and Facebook page. I made the group a private group and no one can find it . And you can’t change a private group to public. .
So I paused it.
The new group is called The Iowa Field target association.
Please join if you want.

So big changes today.
I can’t make the Facebook group private then make it public. So I had to start a new public group.
Some people don’t like public groups. So I will keep both pages but the Iowa Field Target Association or I.F.T.A. Is the new group name.
It is easy to find now. I got everyone to change over a d recruited three new members.
So at this point we have eight members. And we are going to try to set something up soon. Still need permission to use the farm. But that’s looking good. I will be ordering enough targets so we have three or four lanes.
Things are possibly going to happen.

Just an update on the club.
I have seven or eight members that have joined the Facebook group. They mostly live in the Cedar Rapids or south east Iowa area.
At this point I am just getting people interested in airgun activity together.
Once we have a group of enthusiasts we can approach a gun club about joining there club and using it for airguns.
Currently most clubs have airgun programs so it is just a mater of expanding an existing range from 10 yards to 60 yards.
For now I just post up videos and links to information about airgun.
Please join the group even if you don’t live it Iowa.

Updating the status of
The Iowa Field Target Association.
So the Facebook group has 15 members. That is a surprise to me.
I feel like an important aspect of getting the club going is consistency. So I post something every day. And that is getting tough for ideas. So currently I am taking each week and featuring different aspects of airguns. From antique guns and history to big bore. Now that winter is here I am focusing on indoor shooting and starting an on line target competition. So if anyone wants to join that. It would help encourage people to participate.
Probably the 12 bullseyes at 10 meter. Will be the start. I’ll start in January with that. Just post up your best card from the month. Honor system what ever.

The West Liberty Gun Club has a new airgun range. All members of the WLGC are encouraged to go have a look and try out the new airgun range.
It is located just west of pistol bay six. Shooting north. There will not be any interruptions to shooting in pistol bay 6. Hearing and eye protection is required.
The range is set up for a specific sport called Airgun Field Target. But is intended for most Airgun activity.
There is a 55 yard sight in range with a shooting bench. Also the bench can be used for bench rest shooting.
There are five firing lanes for field target shooting. Each lane is 55 yards with two targets per lane.
The airgun range is designed for small caliber airguns .177 .22 and .25. Larger caliber airguns should be used on the normal 100 yard range. At no time is this range to be used by any centerfire or rimfire guns.
The targets are not designed for rimfire ammunition and the backstop at the airgun range is not suitable for firearms.
Airguns used on the airgun range should be below 50 ft lb. of energy. About half the power of .22 caliber rimfire. And pellets only.
The sport of field target restricts the power of the guns to 20 ft lb. That is to save the mechanical targets and keep the playing field even.
This is a link to the Facebook group that will be maintaining the Airgun Range.
https://www.facebook.com/share/g/16EogCwTok/?mibextid=wwXIfr
The Airgun range is designed for WLGC members to use anytime during normal range hours..unless there is a scheduled competition. WLGC members are encouraged to join the competition.
For information and questions you can check out the facebook group. Iowa Field Target Association. The Facebook group is mostly videos explaining modern precision airguns. And how to shoot and maintain them.
The Facebook group along with the WLGC calendar will have competition dates posted.
If you are interested in Field Target, airguns or sport shooting with airguns please PM Eric. Or email If you have any questions. iowafieldtargetassociation@gmail.com
There will be a competitive event held at some point in the near future. A typical competition takes about three hours. Time for sight in. Then the competition and then a couple hot dogs and hamburgers while the scores are tabulated and awards are given out.
This video explains the game for the most part. Some of the rules he states have changed but this is what the sport of field target is all about.
There will be other types of airgun activity as interest changes and time goes on.
There will be permanent targets placed in the lanes. The animal shaped targets are movable and the post mounted spinners that are permanent with yardage marked.
Any and all input is welcome.
But the basic idea is to be safe, have fun and learn about airguns.
Hope to see everyone at the first scheduled event!!

This is the Iowa Field Target Association monthly report for April 2025
The Facebook group has 37 members.
Thank you to all the people that and are making this happen.
The weather is rapidly changing to better Shooting temperatures. Still a fun challenge learning to shoot in the wind.
Construction is continuing on the airgun range at the West Liberty Gun Club.
The airgun range is open to the public but not completely finished.
The sight in range with a bench is complete.
There are movable reactive targets and permanent spinners with range markings for public use.
Eye and ear protection are required at all time and a hat is strongly recommended.
The field target corse is still being layed out and cleared. That will probably be a couple weeks to complete.
If you live in the West Liberty Iowa area. And you want to shoot airguns or Airgun Field Target. Please consider joining the West Liberty Gun Club.
We will be having airgun competitions soon. The details have not been worked out at this stage. You do not need to be a member to compete. Competition will be open to the public.
If you join the West Liberty Gun club you can use the Airgun range, pistol bays, 100 yard range and trap corse anytime the range is open. Unless there is a competition.
Public hours are Saturday and Sunday 1-5 pm.
CHECK THE SCHEDULE!
Public access is sometimes suspended during large competition events.
Report to the range officer building before going to the range.
Club members can shoot from 8am - dusk seven days a week. I will be at the range Saturday mornings.
If you are interested in getting together for Saturday morning shooting matches . PM me or Email.
I will provide more details as things progress.
