It’s a Abas Major from just after WW2 in England.  Less than 2000 made, only produced about a year.  This one is in awesome condition, but I will need to replace the spring. A almost impossible find in the US. Kind of completes my blue milled steel airgun collection.

Most interesting design: was a concentric pistol with the barrel going through the piston, like the Hy-score. (First pic)  A tap-loader which is almost unheard of for a pistol. (Second pic) Was very expensive at the time, probably part of its undoing?  Another pistol soon came out at half the price. This guy is English and he says they are rare as hens teeth over there, imagine the rarity over here! Couldn’t believe it when I saw it for sale online.

The largest serial number known is 1858?, but the last 50 or so were assemble much later from parts left over after it was discontinued. They added “Air Pistol” after “Abas Major” to the name on the tube.  So far mine at 1798 is the highest know serial number with just “Abas Major” on the tube thus probably made by the original makers.
