I am getting a bit bored with punching paper with bbs. My situation is a small yard, and close neighbors. I was thinking of some shooting gallery for bbs that would allow me to shoot Silhouette pieces on a wood stand that would be safe from ricochet. needs to be portable, could hang some old clothes in the back maybe, tee shirts or something, any ideas would be very much appreciated. I have five sets of Silhouette animals to use.

Yup.... paintballs are some of our favorite targets. We buy them by the box of 2000.

I use political campaign signs I collect after election day. Two 12"x17" Shoot & See splatter targets fit on the signs. Sometimes I stick golf tees in the top of the plastic waffle board with paint balls on top. Then behind it another target board so I can see where and how far I'm missing.

 When I was too cheap to buy metal field targets I cut out plywood silhouettes of critters, traced from coloring book, I used a hole saw drill to make a kill zone and covered the kill zone puck from the cut out with a 1/8th inch thick layer of duct seal putty. The putty saved the kill zone and helped keep the kill zone in place.

Ooooo, I love this kind of repurposing! Especially since I still have a few of the Birchwood Casey Zombie targets.

Get green paint balls and set your target out in the dry areas of your yard....
Move it around as needed for color.......

Normally that would be great!! BUT ...I am not normal. here in Arizona, we have gravel yards, not one living thing on my property, so can't use paintballs as they would stain the gravel.

The juice in the paintballs dilutes and rinses away with rain.

I've had mice get into the bags before I started sealing them in ice cream buckets and eat some of the paintballs. The point is that they are not harmful to critters or pets.

ricochets are generally the result of the BB finding a target "too heavy" to push over. Dont get me wrong, the BB will deflect from a soft/ light target, but it would be completely harmless and land nearby. I use small blocks of pine (the softest) cut from 1x1  stakes. i cut them into 1/2 inch slices so they can stand and the decorate silhouettes in them (or just get stamps and paint them like that). I stand them on the skinny side, and after a knock down, the bb will either be inbedded in the wood (about half way) up to 2 fpe, or it would have bounced off, leaving a divet that may be used for scoring.
