Strange find on my shooting range .

    I went out to my range to shoot a couple of Sheridans I have in the stable. I rotate shooting all my rifles to keep those in good condition. My range is near my birdbath & I can shoot up to 50 yds. I have to fill it often due to Crows splashing all the water out . I don’t like Crows & I don’t think they like me.
     I always rinse the birdbath out well to keep the water cleaner. Well, I got a surprise this time. There was a .69 cal. Musketball in the birdbath. This is ammo that most likely came from the Indian Wars in Florida. I know it was not in there last time I filled it. Maybe the Crow is trying to make friends with me ??

Likely from a crow. “Gift” is more debatable.

A woman near where we used to live often put out a few peanuts in the shell for crows, as did I. She said she would find strange, kinda grisly items in the birdbath such as parts of mollusks and starfish. She wondered if the crows were thanking her. I said…

They are probably just keeping them cool and wet for future consumption.

The crows did such a good job of maintaining our gutters that when a window washer peeked into them, he reported that they didn’t need to be cleaned. The crows liked to cache nuts in there. When they got impatient for more peanuts and knew I was in (because they could peer in from the skylight edges), they would clomp heavily in the gutters, trying to get me outside. When the moss grew in the gutters, they would tear pieces up and toss them to the driveway below, where it was easy for us to remove. I think they grubbed through the moss looking for bugs to eat.

It was a hoot to be surprised by an upside-down crow face looking in at me, perched from thr roof edge. Oh, hi there!

My sister lives on the prairie outside Cheyenne …when working in the yard she often finds lead bullets….appear to be .50 cal..pointed tip with 2 maybe 3 rings…I suppose no way of knowing how old without CSI…lol

Nothing new. I see p nut shells in there a lot, but that is a big crop here .
