Crosman 1377 Scope or Red Dot?

Update: Did some trigger work on the new 1377.

Hit the part of the trigger that contacts the sear with 600, 800, then 1000 grit sandpaper. 

Did the same on the sear where it contacts the trigger, spring and hammer. 

Then I got out the Dremel and polished the trigger and sear contact points with med, then fine polishing compound. 

Applied some Super Lube to the trigger and sear.

Installed some washers to the trigger and sear posts to take up the side to side play in the trigger.  Being into the RC hobby has its benefits when you need random fasteners and washers!

Lastly I installed a much lighter trigger spring.

All I can say is wow.  All grit in the trigger is gone.  The pull weight is significantly reduced and the accuracy while shooting offhand has increased.  I am very pleased with this gun and find myself picking it up more than my other guns.

I realize that I am late to the party here but wanted to post for the benefit of future readers. I have a 1377 and I put a Buck Rail reflex site on it. I am very happy with the Hawkeye and it has been very accurate for me. I site my 1377's in at 13 yards because that seems to be the sweet spot for me so that anything from 10yards to 25 yards is good without thinking about it. Following up on this older thread, I've installed a reflex sight on my modded 1377 with very satisfactory results. I too am an old guy with suspect vision and like a little 'help'. I had previously had a moderate power scope on the 1377 and decided to try a reflex. My research into the reflex sights found that most of the more 'budget' priced sights used the same emitter with a 3 moa dot, so I went cheap. Found a $20 reflex with an 11mm base on fleabay and ordered one. Works as advertised and for casual plinking and such, it is fine.
Put the steel breech and whatever other mods in and try a reflex. If it doesn't suit you, you can always swap it out for something else.

I just purchased a Crosman 1377.  I intend on installing the steel breech kit soon.  I am researching scopes and Red Dots.  My eyes are not what they used to be and I am used to shooting with scopes on my air rifles.  The 1377 will be used for plinking paper and steel targets.

The maximum distance I will be shooting is around 20 yards.  I like the idea of a small compact red dot but am concerned that at the 20 yard distance, that I would not be able to see the 4 inch Splatterburst targets.  Does anyone have any experience with Red Dots at this range on a pistol?  If so what is a good MOA rating on a red dot for this range?

Also, any recommendations on smaller pistol scopes with good eye relief on a 1377?

It will be fine on that big of a target.  When zeroing for the longer rang, set your zero with the top edge of dot.  pellet is rising at closer range, so there will be a range of distances to just cover the spot, and a close range zero on the bottom edge of the red dot.
