Matt hooked me up with a stl file for the M1 and it will hold BB's.
I found another banana style magazine that I'll use to modify the M1 stl.
I plan to mount the M1's on a wall after working them over as they are just so COOL!
My stepson saw them today and he freaked thinking they were REAL M1's!

This is what you hate to see when you open up old AirGuns.
Left to right.
Barrel Lock Spring. Was the main cause of the Jammed barrel as the Lock Ball was missing.
Valve Spring. Sure sign someone was in this M1 before.
Retainer Spring. Another sign of tampering.
Pop Valve Assembly. It had bits of metal embedded in it from Who knows where!

I took that old Pop Valve and removed the plastic. I assume it was teflon?
I'll measure that up and make a part out of delrin.
Not that I'll be using it for this rebuild but should I ever need one down the road.
I'm thinking place the metal part in the freezer, slip a delrin part back on, and after it warms up do a final turn to size.
I'm a retired tinkerer so what do I have to lose? If you say "Your mind". To late! Left that some where near LA, California years ago!
Or maybe the Mall in Sacramento.
Nice thing is Jon included a brand new, never used, Pop Valve in the stuff he sent me!
I do have to wonder about the thermal properties difference though. May just buy a small teflon rod to work with.
The shaft where that plastic part goes measures out to 3/16th perfectly. I'll freeze it and then measure.

I am sure that you have seen this blog by Nick Carter:
https://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Crosman%20V350%20Crosman
And how about making that teflon ring energized with an O-ring beneath it in a groove?

Yeah I've read alot of his blogs. Good stuff!
And do you mean an o-ring under the teflon ring on the Hammer and Piston Assembly?
If you look close at the Pop Valve Assembly image above you'll notice a rough grey texture to it.
I highly suspect that's burnt plastic from a bit of lighter fluid fed into the Gun.
A favorite trick of young kids everywhere! Nice POP with some flame! I myself am guilty of such a devious act!

Cleaned stock with a couple of painted parts stuck on it at the top.
Totally stock M1 with pretty good paint at the bottom.

Bluing Kit will be here later this week. All paint work is done. Now on to the other parts.
I'll do a shoot off between the 2 M1's I got and which ever one shoots through a can better? That one does not get robbed for parts!
I'll be doing a quick 600 grit hone on the Compression tube then burnish in some good moly. Just because I can.
The barrel will get a good cleaning on the bore before I blue it. Final clean of other parts will be done and all the new seals and such assembled. I do use moly in some areas like the rear sight adjustment screw. That thing was a monster to get loose when I got this Gun!
It works like my old Service rifle now! Buttery smooth!
On a delrin replacement seal for the pop valve? Estimated temps for the compression stroke is about 400 degrees.
That pop valve has it's plastic on the outside of it so the hot gases have a layer of metal before the temps could hit the delrin.
Given you don't do a butt load of shots really fast? It'd expect the temp to not hit that delrin above 175 degrees?

Made a 'Hone' for the compression tube. I use adhesive backed foam on a plastic stick.
I wrap enough to get a slight snug fit then add a layer of sandpaper for the tighter fit.
Running with hot water dripping on it helps do a good job of breaking the glaze.
I did deburr some areas since I could feel places that would mark the teflon seal when reinstalled.
I'll take the sand paper off to burnish in some good moly. Went through all the piston seals I have handy checking if any could be used instead of the Teflon seal. A good parachute type would have been nice.
Cleaning of the bore in the barrel is next. I want to be sure common BB's will go through it.
Here's the fantastic Rebuild kit Jon included with the M1 I got from him.
The Bluing Kit just arrived so I can actually get started on the bluing work much sooner then I expected!
Also it looks like JG Airguns has some parts that I could order to replace anything I rob from a parts gun.
I'm also going to make a delrin part to fit over the Stop Plug Assembly shaft. It should help keep the Spring from bending in that area.
Maybe not needed but what the heck. That Main Spring is a pretty weak Spring so anything that cuts down distortion when compressed should be a good thing. Probably going to need to pin it in place

Cleaned the bore and found a tight spot just at the muzzle end. A Standard Daisy BB goes through until it hits that area.
Used a jewelers round file and removed a slight burr at the muzzle. I'm gonna hit the muzzle in the lathe to smooth it down a bit and do a crown. The end at the muzzle is really fuggly!
Looks better!

One thing I hate is the BB Loader area at the breech end. You always get scratches in that area!
I think on the next M1? I'm gonna try Jim's Old skool glue on bits. They work great in other Guns why not on the M1?
I've tested Crosman Copperhead and Daisy BB's through this M1 barrel. There was a time Crosman warned about other BB sizes.
This is a later Gun judgeing by a Serial number on it.
1st tests shots out of 2 potential donor guns done. 12 yards to a tire rim I use as a fire pit.
1 had some nice rebounds! Other? Not so impresive. The beer can at 12 yards is next.
Pardon Me while I empty a Beer can.
And both went in one side and out the other. Guess it will be a roll of the dice to determine the Donor for parts.
One of the M1's has a slighty darker stock.
Barrel and other parts get final work for Bluing tomorrow.

6 times coating the barrel with the Bluing? Man this thing is killer!
All oiled and polished? Better then brand new!
Here's the barrel with the front sight in place.

Probably over kill for a BB Gun that will see a life on a wall but I use Krytox cpl 226 for lube in some areas.
I've read that some people say a spring from a Bic lighter works for a replacement in a certain area.
NOT! Uhless you want to work with an undersized spring! Even a Zippo spring is undersized.

Real interesting find today! Took 1 of the donor Guns apart to find out that the upper hand guard is actually from a dark stock version!
Someone just painted it to match a light stock lower!
Don't feel bad taking this Gun apart having found the stock is broken near the trigger.
So at some point this M1 was worked on. Also found a much heavier trigger spring in it.
The ball bearing is also much larger for the barrel lock. More like 3/8ths then 5/32nds.
The left stock is the older donor. Right stock is the later (1977?) stock.
Notice the difference.
I'm going to add some shimming to the trigger. Those things wobble more then I do after 10 shots of Jim!
Your probably saying 'Why do all this extra stuff?' Well. I consider it practise for the M1's I have for myself!

Today is final assembly work. The barrel and all those parts are in place and installed in the compression tube.
It's down to the hammer and getting the Spring in now. Then mount it all in the stock.

Nice job on the M1! I believe that I am going to duplicate the sight for my V-350 and modify the seals a bit.
