Muzzle Chrony

I've seen in a number of English videos on youtube where they are using muzzle mounted chronographs.   These seem ideal but I don't see many (read as none so far) in the USA.  The down side to these seem to be they don't print but are much more convenient.   Anyone using one?  Any reason to not use one?

Combro CB-625 Mk4.

I bought mine through ebay from Nikkonos in Canada. About $75 or so. There's a "deluxe" model that allows you to tip the reader-head out of the way of the pellet flight. I made my own alignment rod to align the chrony to the muzzle - setup takes literally seconds.

Attaches via rubber bands (I made adjustable elastic straps for mine). There's a fellow on the Crosman Pistol Forum (CAPOF) named Stot who makes a USB cable to connect to a PC or Mac for automatic shot collection (without the need to reset between shots).

I really like mine. Very small and convenient, use it in any light condition, etc. The software for the Mac is free, and there are at least 2 compatible software applications available for PC (1 from Combro - free, 1 from the cable maker - small upcharge).

What kind of power levels are you shooting through yours?  I read that they have an FPE limit because of the muzzle blast.
Did the instructions mention anything? Just curious.

Stot's program is nice. It collects data in metric and English.  He keeps a data base of guns and also pellets.  He also has cables for some of the other chrono's.  

I have the Combro bought on eBay for a reasonable price.  It is very good but I have a lot of guns with tapered barrel brakes on them.  I felt the Combro needed a special wedge to hold it on securely.  I still use,it on gums with straight barrels.  I believe the instructions did mention the muzzle blast problem.

I'm shooting about 8.4 ft-lbs at 10 pumps (JSB Exact 8.44 gr @ 670 fps) or 11.4 Joules. The manual for the Combro says max power of 75+ Joules or about 55 ft-lbs, so I'm well within the limits of the device.

Another nice feature is that it's secured to the AG, so you can target shoot (multiple lines of fire) & record data at the same time.

OK Grumpy, I took the bait and just ordered one.  At $47 + $7 shipping, it's definitely worth a try.  It says it will work with firearms, too.  Maybe I should have ordered 2 in case I break the first. 

Now I'll have to take a look at chrono connect.

Now I would not go so far as to say to use it with firearms. It does have threads on the bottom for a tripod. It stood up to my .25 cal mrod and .22 cal FX so I know it handles enough for me.
