Do any other 499 shooters hate the Daisy bb container?

I don't know how the kids competing in the 5m BB matches do it, but I doubt they're fiddling with trying to get single BB's out of the terrible Daisy BB container.

I have tried just putting them in a pellet tin or putting a few in the lid of an empty pellet tin and have never been happy with that.
When you've only got a small amount of BB's in that lid or only a few left in the tin the BB's tend to gravitate towards the outside edge where they're kind of hard to grab.

Today  I decided to finally come up with a solution.
I took the top of an H&N pellet tin ( they're thin ) and formed a concave dish shape into it by pressing with the butt of a screwdriver handle, then hot glued it to the top of a 500ct Crosman pellet tin.


Because it has a dished shape the bb's gravitate towards the center,  and with bb's in the tin that makes it hard to knock over too.

I can take out however many BB's I need, close the tin and place them in the top to be easily and conveniently picked individually for loading.

looking good. anything that holds a few and is convenient to pick up one at a time as you are only loading them one at a time.

I don't have a 499 but usually shoot bb's in a Crosman 760 or Daisy 35 by single loading.  I've had the same problem dumping a few bb's in a pellet tin lid, hard to get out along the edges.  A couple years ago I took a lid and put a piece of paracord along the inside edge (with a few drops of glue to hold it).  It worked a lot better than a plain tin lid.  Later I made another with a double piece of paper towel to line the inside of the lid then placing the paracord on top.  This second one works alot better with bb's or pellets.  Easy to pick one up without any trouble, they'll roll out quite easily from around the edge and don't roll so easily across the bottom making them easy to pick up one at a time.  I like your idea though.  If I had seen it before I made these - I would have probably used it.  Just 2 ways to accomplish the same thing.  Looks good!

I was thinking of a weak magnetic strip on the drink coaster as well.

That was my 1st thought, but I didn't get it cut very well and ultimately wanted something that would look better.

If I could have cut it nicely and rolled the edge for a finished look and more rigidity it would have been a great solution.

Magnetic screw cup

I have a bunch of these things, but they all pick up so much ferrous matter and I'd always  end up with junk on my bb's.
It's an excellent idea if you're somebody who can keep the thing clean, I'm just not one of those people.

That looks like a pretty good idea.
I'd probably want to cover the magnets with something so I don't get much ferrous debris stuck to them, but otherwise it seems like a great idea.

I don't know if this will be my final solution , but I just finished making this leather bb tray.

8oz veg tan wet formed in a jar lid.

It's not dished in the middle so the BB's don't gravitate towards the center, but they're not hard to pick out at all.
Most of all leather is classy and cool.

My other thought was to dish out a nice block of walnut, that would work extremely well and look good polished & oiled but I don't think I have a way to cleanly smoothly dish it out.
