Scope for Beeman R7

Howdy all, I have the new Beeman R7 coming and have been thinking which would be a decent scope for it. I've kind of narrowed it down with the research I've done. I will only be doing plinking and target shooting about 20-30 yards. These are the scopes that i've been looking at. Hawke Vantage 2-7X32 AO, Mantis 3-9X32 AO and the Monstrum Guardian 3-9X40. The eyes aren't the best these days so maybe some of yous can relate. any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the Beeman R7 is a spring piston air rifle you should see if your proposed scope is rated for springer use.  Although Hawke has a lifetime warranty I do not believe the Vantage series is rated for springers although they do hold up well to lower powered springers.  For shooting target I like a 4-16 power scope with a 50 mm objective and side focus or at the very least an adjustable objective.  That way I can actually see where I'm hitting at twenty to thirty yards without walking up to the target - but that's me.

My R7 sports a Hawke Airmax 2-7x32ao. To  me the larger diameter objective lens makes this little rifle top-heavy.

Not only top heavy but IMO it's visually mismatched. A small gun needs a smaller scope. An Hw30(R7) is a thirty yard gun for groups. If 7X isn't enough your scope isn't focused properly. I shoot mine at beer cans at 100 yards. It's got a 2-7 Airmax. The Airmax is great but the 2-7 Vantage AO is a fine scope and will certainly hold up fine on that gun.

I have over a dozen Hawke scopes. The Vantage line isn't recommended for springers over 12 fpe. However I have a 3-9 Vantage that I use as a shop mule and it's been on dozens of springers included a few R1s.

Buy with confidence. Vantage will be fine. Airmax is nicer if you can afford it

Why a Duplex reticle?
Why not a Mil dot reticle they feature multiple aim points for hold-over and hold-under.

Ditto on recommending mil-dots for easy reference points. Duplex is fine when you're dealing with faster moving projectiles but you're making life more difficult than needed with 30S velocities

Im pretty sure the duplex is only offered with a 100 yard parallax. They are great scopes i have at least 3 on centerfire rifles. For the Hw30 platform the AO mildot model will help you focus at airgun ranges at 7x. The duplex model will be blurry and nearly unusable at 7X with in the practical ranges of a Hw30.

howdy!  well I'm trying the Hawke Vantage scope yous suggested, really good and clear.  one thing I'm noticing, I can see my front iron sight on low magnification, 2-between 3 and 4. I'm using the Hawke medium match ring mounts. is this normal or should I be using higher mounts?

Higher rings may look goofy. Most people just loosen the screw for the front sight and remove it until they want to shoot irons. Only takes a few sexonds. Personally I just keep it on there and zoom in until I can't see it any more

 The image of the front sight happens, I just look past it, though it does help to align the gun level as the front sight lines up with the cross hairs.

This is totally normal with any low power scope with a parallax suitable to airguns. We have the same scope on my wife's HW30. Higher mounts won't change anything.

You can either remove the open sights if you'll never use them again. Or leave them on and either learn to ignore the front sight ghost or use a higher magnification so it disappears. Most people use a high enough mag not to see it anyways.

For an older R-7, I used an older scope - an old blued steel Weaver Marksman, Model 3/4"- 4X. It's a skinny scope, but it looks good on the old R-7(1973). Both the R-7 and the scope are made of steel and are blued - they just look good together because they are both in very good condition.  The newer R-7's look much more modern and look good with the plastic scopes.  So just about any plastic scope will work, get a scope suits your needs.  I've got plastic scopes on some of my expensive, hunting guns and they work well - my groups have improved significantly because of the type of crosshairs I chose. The expensive scope had thick crosshairs and just didn't shoot good groups.  There's a huge selection of scopes available - you just have to pick the right one.

Two really good compact scopes are the Optisan CP or GPO Centuri.  Veyron, for a more budget price is decent too.

Hawke Vantage 2-7x ao here.

The same scope with IR has an etched reticle. Both are good scopes.

I like Hawke products.  I also have had very good luck with several UTG Bug Buster scopes.  Never had one fail.  Make sure it is rated for a spring piston airgun, that it is parallax free at shorter ranges, and a smaller objective lens to keep the bulk and weight down on these very fine R7 models.
