Not only does it have grippy serrations on it and protect the finish, it tells you where you should be holding it with your shooting hand while pumping.
You can hold it by the pistol grip, but that's putting force in a more strenuous location and it's less efficient and harder to pump if you hold it that way.


Btw this is an 8 pump gun, 3-8 pumps.

bantam5s, I totally understand about pumping by the grip.  With the scope on my 392, that is typically where I hold it and it get's difficult to pump.  Is the hand guard something that is still available to add now?

I have Williams peeps on two others and six with peeps altogether.
I was taught to use them in the service of the good uncle.

Now, they use red dots..

last time I ordered some I had to do it by email….the email is listed on here in a post somewhere….someone with a better memory than me maybe along..I actually gave an extra one away when I scoped my 392s…good luck.

Once in a while the hand guards are listed on E-Bay, but they are a hard to find item anymore.

You'll love it.
I don't have scopes on any of my guns and try to put aperture sights on everything I can.
I especially love the 5dsh on my '79 blue streak it's very accurate with that peep, I shot it well enough before but it's been so much better after I got it drilled & tapped for a peep sight.

I cannot speak for others but I personally could not shoot any better than this if I added a scope to my gun ,and in fact with a budget scope that has a fixed parallax I would shoot much much worse.




I'm no amazing crackshot by any stretch , this is just as example of what even a mediocre shooter like me can do with peep sights.
I'll bet you can shoot even better than this with a peep on your gun.

   If you can't find Sheridan hand guards a piece of high-quality thick auto vacuum tube, not the thin stuff, can be split and slipped on the barrel. Here is one I made for a 392 that feels better than the original one on my Sheridan.

I have used fuel line myself, your solution looks better but I do like how the fuel line is kind of grippy.
