For the love of carbines

Carbines are just the perfect airguns to me.

Where bullpups are to compact for my large arms, carbines do check all the boxes for me. Right sized, not too heavy, manoeuvrable. Anymore carbines lovers here on the forum ? Could be springers like the TX and HW97 as well.

Here are my 2 ones. The CZ200s and the Hatsan Flash.

Ihave an HW77K   I think that is a carbine I find it a nice rifle in that is is conpact and has the attributes of A Weihrach but I don- use it much and then obky for pkinking . There a boxes that it diesnt tick . I have other short rifles  Diana and Gamos that i have shortened and I really like them . Less pellet drag in the barrel and handy to use.

Exactly.  This 70 yo body doesn’t like to carry the MRod or BSA S-10 too far from the pickup.  Is why I’m playing around making a PRod into a carbine.  Yes, less power and fewer shots but way more pleasant as a field gun.

Also another vote for the HW77k, although it is still kinda heavy.

For me it's a P-Rod Carbine with an 8" moderator.

Silent backyard pesting/plinking Carbine. I have yet to find anything smaller or lighter.

Also has an excellent trigger and superb accuracy.

  My favorite carbine is this one I put together in a Crosman 160 stock.  I used a .25cal LW barrel, Disco tube cut to 18 1/2", Magnum Airpower custom Disco power valve and metal trigger housing, Mellon Power Adjuster, TKO, and wearing an AK China scope at present time.  Best accuracy is with H&N Field Target Trophy 20.06g pellets tuned to about 800FPS.

I love my WP Sumatra carbine. Short, agile, improved trigger & power wheel,  able to be dialed up/down to suit the situation or ammunition being used. It’s an accurate 85FPE hammer & likes most ammo.

I've got three Crosman 1400's, a 2240 carbine, and a sawed off Crosman Fire with an 11" barrel.  I think my Crosman 2200 and my C362 would qualify as carbines too.  Short, light, and handy, these are my "hiking" guns for when I have to walk a good distance while hunting.  The sawed off Fire is specifically intended as a boat gun for hunting squirrel from a canoe.

I consider my Hatsan magnum springers to be "artillery of position" for use from blinds and tree stands and in situations where I don't have to walk far.  I call my 1400's Stumpy, Stubby, and Shorty.  I call my Hatsan mod 125 "Der schwerer Eichhorn angriff Kannon" (Heavy anti-squirrel cannon).

Hunting from a powerboat that is underway is illegal in Florida.  Hunting is legal from a row boat, or canoe that is underway.  Hunting is legal from powerboats but only if they are not underway under power.  Otherwise most duck hunting would be illegal.  Around here it is traditional to hunt squirrels from a boat early in the season.  It helps to have a good retriever dog for squirrels too.

Thanks Carter for the clarification. I knew duck hunting from a stationary boat was obviously legal, but it was the “underway” powerboat part that I misunderstood. Thanks again.

Under weigh. I think you are under weigh/ way as soon as you are free of the dock, lines detached or the anchor
 Is free of the bottom  Anchor away ie weighing on the vessel. You don' need to be moving or have power on.

Anyway what I really looked up this thrread fpr was to say thatcarbines make sense with springers regarding Cardew's assertion that 11 or so inches is optimum lenght for a springer barrel  cocking leverage and iron sight length can complicate lenght that.

Squirrels from a canoe with airguns, that sounds like about as much outdoor fun as can be had. I need to look into that in my area.

Ah the King's English versus good ol' Merican English!  We could split hairs forever!

Eleven inches is just sufficient cocking leverage for a 15 FPE break barrel.  It's stout and not particularly pleasant to cock. I added a faux moderator made from PVC pipe and duct tape that makes it a bit easier on my cocking hand.  But it's handy enough to load and shoot from a canoe.  I can toss the cheap Crosman Fire into the bottom of the canoe and let it slop around in an inch of water sometimes.  I tie it to a thwart with a long piece of paracord.  That way it won't get lost if I flip the boat.  I've experimented and long air guns just don't work in small boats.

Cool carbine, what's your fill pressure and shot count, if you don't mind?

  It has the high pressure stainless valve screws 3000psi from Magnum Airpower but I only fill to 2500psi. I shoot about 10 full power shots and refill.  I have not done any shot count tests as it is just one of my  back yard pest guns.  With the short tube and high performance valve I don't expect a high shot count. It also likes H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.24g pellets. You won't forget the sound of one of these hitting a tree rat!
