Looking for some help to perform simple maintenance

Hi everybody!

I have an old Norica Titan, it's about 15 years old by now. Since I hadn't shot it in a long while, yesterday I decided to get it out for some fun. Sadly, I was met with a bit of rust around the barrel and body. That aside, there's some sort of muck on the seal, which I'm not too sure what it is, pictures uploaded for reference.

It fires about as well as I remember it did all those years back, so as of right now it would be something very superficial. Mind you, I have very little experience, so I'd rather come ask the people that know their stuff best, in an attempt to learn and not ruin my favorite air rifle

This air rifle has never had any sort of maintenance done  I didn't know about those things when I was in my teens.

Any help and pointers will be appreciated!

 Oil and a cloth rub until the rust goes away, 000 steel  or copper wool if there are some stubborn spots at the end.

Old time solid copper penny, not one of the ones made of steel and coated with copper.
Copper is softer than steel, but harder than rust.  Oil with cloth, breech seal is probably ok.  Test it with the tissue test.

Nice, so it seems to be straightforward enough. Any oil in particular I should use? Or at least, should avoid?

Anything in particular I should do with the seal? I think I remember that dirty bit being there before, it may have been there since I originally got it. Should I try to clean it with something? Or as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Googled the tissue test, seems like a great idea to check if the seal is okay. Thanks for that! You guys are great

I'm still waiting on my free samples of Ballistol
ND 10 weight, or WD40 or the like, internals do not get petroleum oils or any other for most cases unless a lether piston seal is involved.

You've been given some really good superficial maintenance tips.  Ballistol is a good choice for pretty much everything on an airgun but definitely not in the compression tube.  You may have to order it as I have no idea whether it's available in Chile.  You could try eBay or Amazon.  Your breech seal appears to be a standard O ring.  The one in my Diana 34 seems to be and an O ring from the plumbing store works fine.

Not knowing what is available in Chilies... simple Automatic Transmission fluid is a light weight oil with light detergents that clean metal well.

However... Does ATF work for cleaning and removing a little bit of superficial rust as well? It would certainly be more convenient. Granted, I'd love to use Ballistol, after quite a bit of research it seems to be the universally agreed upon best there is for the job... But ATF is far easier to get!

Semi-related, I have another question that I don't think warrants a new thread, given how often the topic comes up. I'm trying to get some 30 weight, non detergent oil for both lubricating my airguns in general (pivots, triggers, around blowback actions, etc) and also use on the tip of CO2 cartridges. I don't have PCPs and I know not to use it on my springer because of dieseling and such, can be dangerous.

However, it's also pretty hard to find, and I came across Oil Compressor 16oz MP12 (ST125312AV) (I can't post links, it's Campbell Hausfeld brand).

The description reads:

• High-quality, 30 weight, non-detergent, single viscosity oill
• ISO-100 non-detergent oi

Pretty much the only 30 ND oil I've found over here. Should be good, right? Just trying to make sure, plus, it'll be helpful for people looking for options in the future

I've used this on knives and it removes rust without marring, the oil is fantastic and prevents rust really well.

Alright fellas, gonna quit overthinking it and get my hands to it. I'm getting that 30 weight ND air compressor oil from Campbell Hausfeld I mentioned earlier, a small cheap set of nylon, brass and steel wire brushes and a little cloth. Tomorrow I'm going to have a fun afternoon doing some cleaning on my Titan.

Worst case scenario, rust isn't removed and I gained that experience.
