I think I would like mine darker.

When I get back to work, I’ll ask around who does finishes around here.

Been spoiled when I was still in Asia ‘cuz it’s so easy to outsource this kind of stuff.

I like this super tough high gloss polyurethane finish

Mr. Ron, I’m pretty sure you’re set on the oil finish, but I’d like to throw it out there re true bedliner paint, and no, not just the canister-type.

I asked quite a while ago an outfit if they bedline stocks and they said yes for something like $80.

I would have gone for it, but the $80 was only for black, while tan, or FDE, or ODG were double the price 

I’m partial to tan or FDE, and while they’re not for everyone they’re almost impervious to abuse

You're talking about the stuff you put in the bed of a pickup truck?
I've seen whole trucks painted in it, and it looks awesome.

This rifle is not going anywhere but my back yard, and it most definitely will not be abused.
Besides with a bed liner coating, the grain/figure of the natural wood can't be seen.
That's the main reason I'm doing this.

I do thank you for your suggestion.

A bed liner would be great for a hunting rifle that gets jostled about  during the natural things that go
on during a hunt.

Late to the thead but have you considered OB shine juice. An American idea and it consists 1/3 boiled linseed oil 1/3 cut shellac 1/3 methylated spirits (alcohol (. Wipe it on with a rag and dries in less than 30 minutes;  say three coats in an hour. 5 coats is plenty. Durable easy to polish or wax over easily rejuvenated .
Very useful stuff in a woodworking shop
Golden shellac really gives a nice colour to wood.

The Tru-Oil arrived today and I already put the first coat on.
I'll let it dry for about 2 hrs. and buff it with #0000 Steel wool.

2 hrs is what the instructions said. Should it be more?

After that I'll add another coat.
