Long range wish for adding an HW to my small stable (sell a PB to fund buying an HW97 or HW77--sure love an underlever) but sure hate to "pay my money and take my chances" with a big purchase. I know about the big sellers online. But is there a zip code feature for example I'm missing somewhere that directs me to stocking dealers around the Southeast USA? Nashville has most everything. About 50 miles south of me.

Don,

Your best bet is either Airguns of Arizona or Pyramid Air.  If you find a Weihrauch Dealer in your local they would just be dealing with the same folks and add their margin.
Otherwise, contact Krale in the Netherlands.  Better prices and service and shipping than any US dealer.

Or look for used?

Krale.  They have great deals on HWs.  If the dollar is strong against the Euro they are a super deal.  You will have your rifle in 2-3 days.

Yeah Tallbald,
It's too bad there isn't many Weihrauch distributors in the States where you can walk in and put your hands on the gun.
Even when I visited AOA in 2016, I didn't have much time to look and make an informed decision, beyond simple handling of the gun.
You can learn more about airguns on the GTA or AGN than they will tell you ....... 
Further, you really can't come to a great decision based on how the gun initially feels; you need to shoot it for a while before gaining a solid understanding.

The best answer is to look up a local airgun club where member have a few models you can shoot a bit.

Case in point, I originally thought a HW77K would be great for me, but after shooting it I decided the underlever/loading process was too wonky for me.
Sure, the gun was an engineering masterpiece and beautiful looking, but I just didn't enjoy shooting it like I did a HW50, HW30, HW35E or HW95.

So you really never know unless you've had experience with the gun. 
Remember too, if well maintained, a used Weihrauch airgun can often be sold for about $50/$100 less than it's original price ..... so you're not out that much.

Thank you each for taking time to reply. It's unfortunate that organized air gun enthusiasm support stuff (clubs, store, ranges and such) seems limited to larger cities. And fairly far from my home in southcentral KY. Enthusiasts like me I guess continue to rely of folks like all you here on the forum, and on video reviews from around the world to make informed choices.

You are not that far from Pyramyd Air (They are in the next state.).
(Maybe 8-10 hour drive…😂)
Spend a couple tanks of gas and drive up there.
PA may have an indoor range where you can try the guns before you buy.
When Doc Beeman was in business he had an indoor range at San Rafael and Santa Rosa just for that purpose.

While they don’t sell them, Champions Choice has some great knowledgeable folks who might be able to point you in a direction more local to you.  They are in La Vergne not far from you.

It’s been years since I have lived in the area and while I can point you to many great gun shops I don’t remember any airgun stuff.  I bought all my stuff online while there.

The reality is if you do get get a “bad one” barring some kind of serious barrel defect or production geometry failure of some kind you can easily fix, upgrade or maintain pretty much everything yourself with nothing more then a homemade spring compressor.

I have, well a great many Weihrauchs, and while I have tinkered with a few just cuz, I’ve only ever had one “bad one”. It was an .22 HW95 that was way over lubed and had a torn piston seal from the factory (chunk taken out of it when it was installed) that and the dieseling killed the seal and any kind of accuracy.  It was my first airgun tear down. I replaced the seal and upgraded with a Maccari kit since I had it open anyway and when all said and done it is now one of my favorites.  This was at least 14 years ago. Point is, it was a fairly easy fix even for me doing blind for the first time.

I’ve ordered from Pyramyd, AOA and Krale and frankly Krale was the fastest by far and the cheapest.   Straight Shooters was awesome too but they closed.

Encouraging thoughts and thanks. The thing about powder burners is that there's always someone you run into in social circles or business that has at least some interest in shooting. Stores everywhere support powder burner shooting sports. At least here in the South. Air guns are a different matter, with most looking at them as starter things or for the youngest shooters. if they only knew what they are missing out on!
 With some video and text guidance I'd be willing to repair my own I believe. More readily than I'd be happy about mailing a valued air gun away for repair.

More often then not I would bring an airgun to the range with me and it is amazing how much attention they would garner. I could have a tricked out AR or historical piece or whatever with me but folks would gravitate to the airguns and were always SHOCKED at how nice they were.  The vast amount of shooters only experience with airguns are from the local largemart or the BB gun they had as a kid.  They have no idea what a nice airgun feels like and how capable they are at ranges they never imaged. Much less the triggers.

As an aside.  If you are up in the air over the HW77 and 97 my take is get the 77.  You can always scope the 77 but you can’t run irons on the 97 easily.  The only real difference is the 97 is quieter to shoot. 

Also I probably have some pictures of a 77 or 97 torn down if you want me to email to them to you should you want a tear down reference just in case.

BEWARE. The new high comb stock designs on the 77 make using the irons anywhere from uncomfortable to unusable depending on the size of your head.

The 95 family guns with the Luxus stocks suffer the same problem. Why Weihrauch offers almost unusable irons on these guns is beyond understanding.

If you're going to scope it get whatever you like. Don't get either of these guns thinking you're going to use the irons comfortably. You'd have to sand down the stock comb and refinish it to do that.

If you're looking to just shoot one of these guns before you buy one, you would probably have a decent chance of finding a shooter within an hour or two that actually has one, and would let you shoot it.  The gun you actually receive might not be quite the same and need to visit a pro tuner for best results, but you will have a decent idea.

You are over thinking this.  Our airguns are expensive, most people do not want to spend the money.  They are made in Europe.  Walmart only sells stuff made in China.
How many Ferrari or Aston Marten Dealers are there in your neighborhood?

I don't believe I'm overthinking it, but rather wish there were air gun shooters local to me who had an appreciation for things like a Flying Dragon tuned Xisico, an HW, AA or any number of air guns in addition to those sold at Walmart currently. Shooting friends that don't only quote advertised feet per second ratings from the box and use it as their benchmark of performance. I too love any well crafted and designed less expensive air gun (or powder burner for that matter). I'd sure enjoy having a Dragonfly MK2. Very affordable, highly regarded and I love pumpers. But again, for me a Dragonfly would have to be a mail order only purchase, with no way except traveling far to actually hold one to admire before laying down my money. More's the pity because there's such a great feeling walking into a gun store to admire the beautiful things available to buy here in my neck of the woods. Just not air guns. I've been referred by gun shops to "go check out Walmart..."
I have no interest in a Ferrari. I generally have had and been tickled with Ford and Chevy myself. Hard to haul mulch and concrete landscape retaining wall blocks in a Ferrari too. But I like setting in a late model Ford or Chevy pickup. Can't afford a new one but I can admire one up close and even set in it. I can do that locally! Grin.

I very much understand wanting to handle a gun before buying! Besides the great suggestions already made, a dedicated airgun show is a great place to see and touch all manner of airguns old and new.

There are upcoming shows in Carlisle PA (April 27), Columbus OH (June 1), and Hickory NC (November 1-2). Carlisle is new this year, Columbus and Hickory are well-established and consistently very good. Columbus may be better for new-gun dealers; Hickory is a 2-day show with the advantage of being able to shoot the guns - it is held on the local fairgrounds with tons of space.

At a show you of course never know quite what you will see! They generally run more towards collectible than new guns, so your (or my) current obsession may or may not appear, LOL. But a show is always a great place to play with a lot of toys, and meet a lot of fine folks.

How far are you willing to travel.  Also, remember a lot of vendors have a 30 day like it or send it back full refund policy.

Again thank you friends. An air gun show. Wow that would be fantastic. I'm 65 and grew up in Louisville, KY attending the frequent gun shows at the National Guard Armory in Fern Creek with my beloved Daddy. Lost Daddy to rheumatic heart disease when he was 46 and I was only 20. Best shows I remember were pre-1978, before so much became "plastic fantastic" and the 1911A-1 surplus guns were "$110 take your choice" from a table full in issue boxes.
Haven't been to a show in maybe 5 years as so much seems to be dealers moving their new stock inventory to the venue for the two days.
An air gun show would be great. I did look over some of the thread titles and see other folks from my state saddened by the shortage of air gun retailers (except big box stores) and AG events here in Kentucky. So I have company.
  I'll keep reading here, absorbing the wealth of information enjoying comradery . I'll enjoy videos and the occasional phone conversation. And when funds allow I'll make the best choice I can make from afar.
