R9 replacement spring

How often should I change the spring on my Beeman R9? I bought it in 2006 or 2007, and sent it to CDT not long after I bought it to get tuned up. I shot the gun a good amount for the first few years I owned it, and it's mostly sat in the safe since then.

Im wondering if the spring could be fatigued? Is there a kit you recommend for changing the spring?

Chrono the gun and see where she sits. If it hasn't been shot much I'm betting its probably fine but may need to put a bunch down range to settle it in some.

Springs can get "tired" just sitting unused in the gun.  The chrono is the only way to really tell, though.  With a gun that old the spring is probably "tired".

I've got a magnetospeed sporter, but I read that it won't work with airguns and I'd have to upgrade to the V3.

I'll give it a shot, you never know until you try.

Its a 20 cal. What velocities should I be expecting?

Somewhere around 14ftlbs. A little less won't hurt. Like I said though put a few through it first to get things moving a bit

Yes to the chrony, never heard that an unstressed spring stored properly fatigued on its own.
Also, don't know what shot the gun a fair amount at first means?  100 pellets a month, a 1,000 pellets a month??

News to me as well. I've purchased guns with factory springs from the 80s that shot nearly to spec. Seals will deteriorate with time but as far as I know springs take most of their wear from being compressed and decompressed repeatedly

Only advice I can give is shoot it and see if it is acceptable.  I know lubes do dry up, and springers don’t particularly like storage.

I purchased a vintage Mk1 HW 80 NIB, and it shot but I could tell it was bone dry.  I went through it and the spring had sag from time/pre-load over the years.  I don’t recall putting it across the chrony.  The seal was hard junk.

I have done other things out of curiosity in the past.  I purchased a new HW95 and a 77k in the past, both rifles I cocked and set overnight.

The velocities dropped some on both but not much, and sounded quieter.  Both were tore down just to find the springs broke in 4 pieces.

Asking for a Kit , Here are two in USA, I have used both. I prefer ARH with Custom Air Seals.

How will I know if my gun needs a 25mm or 26mm seal? Do you know what years use the old 25mm seal?

All Beeman R9 use 26mm

Oh, and I use a spring compressor - safety
( there are plans to make a cheap wooden one here on GTA )

AS Robert 5mm said I used the ARH kit in my HW95L which IMO is an excellent kit.  17 FPE with 14.66 gr 5.53 mm pellets.

13.7gr JSB Exact Diablo - 671 fps, 675 fps, 656 fps - 13.7 fpe

It looks like my gun may not need a new spring after all. However, more power would appealing.

It's hard to argue with that logic. The HW 90 looks very nice.

The HW90 is pretty awesome. It gets a lot of hate for some reason but truth be told its one of the best guns in Weihrauchs lineup, especially if you like a snappy powerhouse. Youll want to get the fill probe, gauge and a pump for it too so factor that into the costs. Also. If you can find one in .20 cal that would be an awesome combo

I saw a .20 for sale not long ago. It would be nice to be able shoot farther. How fast can you get the .20 cal pellets?

I'd shoot for about 20ish ftlbs more or less. Mine is a .177 so I can't really speak for the .20 other than the potential it should have.

I have a 90 .20 and one of my sweetest rifles, Set at 18 bar, highly recommended. 18.5 FPE. Have it in .25 cal. as well, and will get in .22.
