The rear section of the valve where the TP is, is only held in place by the TP and the rear tube flange anyway. It provides the ability to adjust the rear section slightly in order to get a perfect alignment with the TP.

There have also been many times I’ve tried different ways to reduce headspace, from adjustable pumps, to shims. Remember stuffing pistons? With the grooved valve, it might be easier to fine tune any pump head space issues, when modding.
