Maurader Pistol Questions

Hello folks
Been awhile since ive posted,or contributed any info to this great place.
I just ordered a maurader pistol with stock from academysports online for $391 shipped in 22 cal.
My budget umarex origin lost accuracy,figured it was time for a lighter,smaller field hunter.
The stock 700 fps i kinda dont like.....althou it would be fine as im using it for squorrels and rabbits while sitting on deer hunt with my 357 bulldog.
With that said id like to be in the low to mid 800fps range with the prod for atleast 16 shots per fill.
Im always budget,so im assuming a better hammer spring,drill the transfer port will get me there.
And what do you guys use for a compact,effective moderator?

Thanx for any info on mods,or parts you can direct me to.

You should reach out to Kerndtc.
He will either give you advice or suggest you send it to him for a tuneup.
There is only 65cc of air in the PRod (I am on my 3rd).
A heavy spring, drilled TP and bStaley mod will get you your 16 shots.
Buck-Rail, TKO, Rocker1 LDC..your choice.
Right now I am at 14.5fpe with slight adjustments from factory.
I could add a few turns on the spring and back off on the hammer throw adjustments but I have a nice bell curve and it shoots great.
I do a little woods walking with my air arms but if I am shooting that bite or fight back I grab a PB.
DITTO for deer/antelope as I do not like to track wounded animals.

I have two of them, one stock and the other made into a mini Mrod.

With the longer barrel and .103 TP I get 19fpe with FTT 14.6, 780ish if I remember. This gives me two mags and a couple shots in the 3rd before it drops too much.

My stock Prod works best around 650fps shooting wadcutters.

I would leave yours stock and play with HS and HT to get the best efficiency. It’s an under 30 yard gun. Wadcutters rule that zone!

Will be easier with a longer barrel.

My favorite tune is a 3000 fill, a .111 transfer port, 4 O-rings, a .042 wire shorter hammer spring, 6.75 turns on the hammer spring and 1.35 turns on the hammer throw.  My Prod prefers copper plated H&N Field, Target, Trophy pellets which are 14.66 grain.  This tune gives me an average of 17.5 fpe for at least 20 shots, might be 24.  It will shoot through a squirrel if it doesn't hit bone.  I can get this tune over 800 fps but not for 16 shots.  Just increase hammer throw - but that is going to make the B-staley tune O-rings ineffective in stopping hammer bounce and thus the shot count will get hit by both the higher power and more hammer bounce.  Can't go much higher on hammer spring tension.  I've also tried a hammer spring made with .045 wire but never found a good "20 fpe" tune with it either.  I can do it but the shot count is at best about 1 magazine.  After determining the results with my current tune I stopped looking for more.  I dropped a squirrel with it Sunday.  Didn't take even one step after impact.  It's probably less than 5 fpe more than the stock tune but I find the extra fpe seems to be significant.  And it's accurate.  I shot a 193 with it on the 30 yard challenge.  I've had a couple tunes at about this power level and killed now 12 squirrels with this gun at ~17 fpe.  None ran, all were quick kills.  None were over about 30 yards.

I have a similar tune as JimD:
-BStaley mod, using 4 o'rings
-enlarged transfer port
-stronger hammer spring

You will need to experiment with the above and will need a chrony.

From 3200-3300PSI down to about 2000-2100 PSI I get 4 magazines, in the 650-690 FPS range with CPHP 14.3.

Yup Rocker makes some quiet affordable stuff, even quiets my GK1!

Prods in stock form are pretty quiet already, but they are almost silent with a decent ldc. They might not be the most advanced airgun but mine has a permanent home with me.

Ed, yes, there is something special about something simple and reliable that trumps many new inovative but complicated PCP's.....

I run my Prods regulated but.....
Just for fun ran this Prod unregulated with the stock 12" barrel.
Want to see if it can get 2 mags at 800 fps with CPHPs.
Ports are .170" with a .157" barrel port.
SSH with a 48 gram hammer.
Without a shroud it was VERY LOUD 90+ dB.

Ive got alot to read thru,and some research to do.
The prod is probably all ill need in stick form....but nice to know my options.
I guess my first real mod would be folding stock and ditch the factiry stock.
Overall im happy to see and hear your results on parts,mods ect.

I do have a 2289g back packer that i installed a 18" 2260 barrel on it years ago.....ill research if it will fit the prod.

Well bad news....think im going to return it.
The first 5 mags fired thru were fine,a dime shooter with cphps 10 and 15 yards effortlesly.
Then at random some shots were off and sounded weak,some shots were powerful and off,then some shots were normal and dead on.
Everytime the poi was off there was a noticable sound change in that shot.
So dont know whats going on to cause an inconsistant shot without touching adjustments.
Watched a vid on tuning,tried a few turns....still no consistency.
I did notice if you turn the hammer spring too much.....its like you run out of threads and the adjustment just skips and never tightens up.
On a side note,on most shots i can smell oil and see a blue smoke exit the barrel.
Temps here were 74f and humid.

Im done,boxed up for return.
Cleaned barrel,wasnt that dirty.tried jsb diablos h&n ftt,h&n barracudas,gamo rnd ball,and had 12 miesterklugens i had left....nothing grouped consistantly.
Tried hammer spring all the way out,5 shot,then 1 turn in,5 shot 1 turn in....ect.
Only groups well at lowest power.
Tried different psi.best results was 2300 down to 2000 psi with cphp,and ftt,hammer 1.5-2 turns in.hammer travel didnt seem to change anything.
However no more oil smell or smoke after i wiped it out the tube and valve,done a complete dissasembly.inside the tube and valve was coated with a thick,brownish sticky lube.like syrup thick n sticky.all seals good,everything was tight,including barrel bands.tried 3 different scopes.
Ive noticed most times when pushing bolt back in it gets really tight,hard to close.those shots are strays.
Also note my mag is very tight and hard to put in.
At this point im thinking maybe the mag isnt lining up properly,may be damaging the pelet trying yo push it thru.
I guess i could unbox and try some groups loading single shot to rule out the mag.
Just really frustrated,fired about 400 rounds sofar.

Ah, I should have added that he used to sell tuned PRODS with MROD triggers, LDC, and Boyds or Indonesian-made stocks. I think part of his tuning was valve and barrel work.

His tuning fee is separate now, but he’s an expert tuner and machinist.
