well again I purchased a new Cometa from Spain, Like I need another, 1
, Oh well, I always wanted a 220c in .22cal so I finally got 1, so far so good! this is the 3rd 220c I have purchased over the past 13yrs, all are the 220c with the moderator, anyway this rifle out of the box was pretty good, all I have done to it was changed out the trigger spring and added some clear tar to the piston spring and guide, been shooting this thing @15yds so far and it shoots the 5.53mm FTT's in a ragged hole half the size of a dime
I have other pellets to test yet but for less than 50 shots down the tube I'm happy with the results, I have not ran it across the CHRONY yet I want to get it broken in a little, but I can tell you it hits the duct seal trap with some power, I would say it's close to my HW50 in .22cal power wise,

Nice!
Is the clear tar the agh clear tar? I was afraid to put that on a spring or guide for fear of it getting up in front of the piston seal eventually. However, I would like to quiet the spring down a bit and suspect that clear tar would be heavy enough.
How's the cometa in .177 compare to your .22?

Maccari states that clear tar is "Not for internal use", but for pivot joints, cocking arms etc. However, I was told by Hector years ago to use it internally, for rear guides, "lube-gluing" tophats to pistons etc., and I find it the absolute best stuff for just those applications. I haven't had any issues, which is not to say there couldn't be any.

It is ARH clear Tar, and yes as said if you use it sparingly IMO you should not have any issues, but time will tell? I didn't pull the piston so it's still burning off some factory lube inside the tube, but the Clear tar did get rid of the spring noise, I could care less about the factory piston seal if it burns up! I have other way better replacement seals if and when that happens! as far as comparing the .177cal to the .22cal IMO they're about the same, I took a few shots before posting and the .22 has some power for this size tube, I like the 2 calibers in this rifle, but I will confess I like any .22cal over a .177cal any day!

I don't have a 220. I was asking about the tar. I also am curious about and following your 220 posts. My recent experience enjoying lower tuned springers in conjunction with having a similar but less experienced taste in springers to yourselfhas me Cometa curious.

Never mind I see your list! The Cometa guns IMO are in a class between Crosman and Diana, I think this rifle from Spain cost me $237 dollars to my door! the smaller tube Cometa's like the 220 and 300's the triggers have a lot to be desired! but their workable, their kind of like a trigger in a CZ634, they're not as good as a Diana trigger but better than a Crosman trigger, keep in mind I'm spoiled from shooting my tuned REKORD triggers and tuned HW rifles, if I thought these rifles {COMETAS} were bad guns wouldn't keep buying them!

Yogi, I have 4 of them and have them all, if I were going to recommend 1 rifle from Cometa, it would be the 400 series! Way better triggers and bigger power plants! for more power or detuned! SB crappy! got to know how to work on them!

What's the Cometa trigger like?
They're all a bit different. The 220s are adjustable and when adjusted right are pretty darn nice. The 300 series are non adjustable and a bit heavy but very consistent nonetheless. I'm not sure why Cometa wouldn't use the 220 or 400 trigger in the 300. With a better trigger the 300 would be pretty hard to beat. The 400 triggers are fantastic and probably the best OOB trigger on a budget gun I've used.
Like Mark611 said, the 400 really is pretty awesome and can be tuned all over the place depending on what you want from it. The USC line is my personal favorite. Short, light, quiet, and pack a decent punch. Ive used my .177 USC for field target a couple of times and they keep up with the pack pretty darn well.
My opinion may be seen as a bit biased and for clarity I should mention that I am a US importer for Cometa right now. That being said they really are some great guns and I wouldn't have brought them in if I really didn't think so.
