Last day or 2 I have been revisiting some of the pumpers that have been occupying space around here. Putting scopes on them and sighting them in. One of those was a really nice Crosman 766. I put an RWS scope on it that has also been hanging around here and sighted it in at 20yds with Daisy blue&white tin wadcutters.
I went to the window shooting bench in the Red Shed this morning to shoot the gun some more before moving on to the next one.
I had it loaded and pumped 5 strokes when this guy came down the side of a tree 25yds out. I took the heart and lung shot due to lack of confidence in the 20yd sight in. I hadn't shot the gun alot since sighting it in so I didn't want to chance the head shot.
He went down, gave a couple kicks and lights went out.
Yeah, we grow em pretty big here in Lower Alabama.

Yeah, that guy and another one his size has been digging up lots of holes in the yard and around the property. We have a bunch of them here but those 2 are the biggest. I have been saying I was going to get them this year but this guy was just wrong place, wrong time.

Good shooting! RWS Supermags are some of my favorite hunting pellets. Wadcutters will definitely get the job done.

I honestly believe that if Crosman would make a wood and metal pumper designed after these guns of yesterday and brought them to us in the $150 - $200 range they would make a killing on volume sales. I'm not talking about fancy new butterflies or $400 commemorative badge inlay limited editions stuff. Not even the cartridge trigger/hammer group and try to pass them off by naming them 342/392.
Give me a wood and metal pumper that I can do minimal improvements to such as smoothing and lightening the trigger. I don't need a repeater with overpriced junk mags that nobody stocks. And I don't want to buy a breech to replace a plastic one so I can securely attach a scope.
If it don't work as advertised out of the box, replace it with one that does, and you pay the return and shipping costs. And don't ask me to return it so you can repair it... I didn't pay for a refurb and I don't want one.
Make perishable parts available and affordable. Supply assembly diagrams and parts lists.
And last but not least...  answer the dam phone and emails.

I think they are all attending the funeral today. I have been on the watch since daylight this morning and I only saw one and it didn't present me with a good shot.
It's been cool, overcast and windy all day so maybe they are just hanging out at home watch Nascar or football.
Or maybe it my Elmer Fudd stalk that has them hunkered down......    laughing.

Yes it is, along with the AM77, 2100 and all the guns in that style. I love the traditional rifle feel of those guns.

Funny.  I avoided getting a 2100 for years because I hated the plastic furniture.  It never occurred to me that you could replace it with wood.  Now one of my "some day" projects is to put wood furniture on my 2100.

Carter, I do and always have considered the 2100 and it's sister guns worthy of wood. The difference is remarkable. The downside, if any, is the loading port. It is not fat finger friendly. Before I learned to carefully roll the pellets in I used squeezers. Like tweezers but clamp rather than pinch. They work great at the bench but not so much on a walk about. Many other folks use pellet pens.
