Couple New to Me German Ladies

Last week was a good week. Posted these in the what did you shoot thread but realized I don’t see some of y’all there much. Stumbled on a couple rifles I’d been coveting. FWB 124 from late 1981 or early 1982. Purchased from a really nice member here. Was his dad’s gun, came with all the original paperwork from Beeman. ARH spring and seal already installed. Silky smooth shooter. Other one got here today. Early Beeman HW77 MK1, number 839. In remarkable shape. Was just rebuilt/tuned by an airgunsmith Insee next door sometimes, don’t know if he’s here also. Dieseling a little but wonderful shot cycle. Straight back, not a buzz or twang to be found. FWB was bday gift from Kim so just adding special to special. HW was my bday gift to me ha ha. Deciding whether to mount a scope or peep.

Nice Hw77 mines stainless look in 22 cal bought new a few years ago. I haven’t done a thing to it and most of the time it’s my most accurate shooter. On our property I used it to shoot pest birds ( Indian Mynas ) almost exclusively. They liked to roost in a big old Spotted gum tree. They would sit at the top at about 50 metres and the buggers would take off if I got closer then 30 metres from the base of the tree.
I soon worked out that I needed a hold under of about one mill dot and sneak up on them from behind another big gum. They are pretty smart birds but the 77 was smarter.
Enough waffling on I’d scope it, you won’t look back.

Ended up putting Williams peep on it little bit ago just to test it out. Wiped off some of the lube that had transferred during shipping, dieseling under control. Stood out at 20 yards and spent a few minutes shooting cans. I may have struck gold with this one. Likely to end up scoped. Thinking I might get the 2-7 x 32 Hawke. Anyone have experience with it? Love to have the one with etched reticle but don’t care about IR and don’t want the extra weight.

I have the 2-7x32 hawke ir on a d48 and a non ir on a dragonfly. I don't notice the weight difference. The non ir has thicker lines but it is easier to see the mildots. The ir has thinner, etched lines but it is harder to see the dots unless the light is on. For me anyway. I would take either one, happy with both.

I had exactly the same sentiments, wanting low power, etched reticle and NO IR. If I recall correctly there ain't no such animal but the wire reticle Hawke you mentioned was thought to be about the best compromise, even though I think Hammers came up too.

In a fixed power, I think my personal runner up might be the Leopold M8 4X model (got mine used, came with a Remington 700 in .270 cal  ). No AO, but I like the clarity and 4X is about as high as one might use if not a bench rest shooter?

Wish I could tell ya great find on the ladies, but I know next to nothing about higher-end air guns.

Thanks for the info on scopes. I have a NIB Athlon 3-12 x 40 with 1” tube that I’m going to put on and see how it handles with a scope. The rail on the HW is pristine, thinking about going with BKL mounts so I don’t accidentally bugger up the arrestor pin hole. Methuselah, no time like the present to learn about high end German springers. I hear AoA has a shipment of HW on the way. They have the FWB in stock last I checked. And Diana makes some fine rifles.

Ditch the bkl mounts. They often slide without a stop block. Go with Sportsmatch t04C. Best mounts you can buy for a Weihrauch. If you are worried about droop, they make one piece droop mounts worth buying.

Droop? This is a 40 year old HW not a new one LOL. And I gots a stop pin! See that big thing on the back of the rail? I thought it was associated with the missing rear sight. Someone next door told me it’s a stop block. Very cool, very big. Not a mark on it just like the rest of the gun. Doesn’t look like a scope was ever mounted on this gun. If I had a set of t04c they’d be on here already. Fresh out of 1” except for a set of Hawke. Won’t put them on here. Might try the SM with the stop block.

I have the same Euro/121’ish stock in my 127 Sporter. I prefer it to the standard and Deluxe Sporter stocks. TWchambers have the newer rear sites in stock. Only difference between them and the older sight is the newer sighted have the four position site plate. Nice looking 77!!!!

I was surprised how pretty the FWB stock was, didn’t show up well in the pics. I really like it also. Some walnut oil gave the nice color back in rear stock, little Renaissance Wax made it shine. Waiting on Pyramyd/UPS right now to get a couple sets of Sportsmatch rings and a Hawke 2-7 x 32 here. Going to put the old RWS 4x in a box and save it. It’s cool, the sight picture is an oblong rather than round. Have a 3-12 x 40 Athlon that will go on the 77 for now. Come on Brown Santa! LOL.
