Lost my other BUDDY

I lost my girl Shadow (gs) last Dec. Wednesday nite I lost my boy Cooper (lab). I am so lost without them. I just turned 82 and I don't know if it would be fair to get another dog at my age.
My health is not great. (copd4 & lung cancer) Can not take long walks, but I can throw a ball to exercise it. What do you think I should do?  Craig

Please consider adopting an adult dog. Everyone goes in looking for a young dog and the oldest dogs get passed over.

Sad to hear that, Craig. Loneliness is awful, so I'd most likely try to adopt a new dog if I someone is willing to take over once I can't handle it.

This is what I would do. Go for a senior dog as they rarely get adopted as long as you are financially able to pay for the vet care needed. Senior dogs are very loving as they seem to be aware they aren't the desirable ones and appreciate being loved in spite of that.

If you are up for it, i second the senior dog adoption.  Many of them end up in shelters and nobody picks them. They often end up put down.

Picking a senior dog will save their life and give them some good years.
Also being older they wont need the exercise like a younger dog and will more likely to be happy sitting on the porch with you or the couch etc

Yeah, I would echo previous suggestions about adopting an older dog if you are able to give it the attention it may require. I think I would also put a plan into play for what happens with it should the unfortunate occur.

     Sorry for your loss…I will soon be 76 and i worry about my 2 and 3 year old girls as my health sux….As mentioned senior dogs need love too….in my city we have programs in place to help with the expense of caring for senior dogs….some rescues here provide for everything  ,all u need provide is a loving home…..good luck

Sorry for your loss. There are plenty of senior dogs to choose from in the shelters. Like others have stated many of the dogs would be happy to have a forever home in their last few years and some shelter help with the care and expense of the older ones, oddly enough some are labs that can't hunt anymore and are owner surrenders.

Mommy won't let me have one but if she did I would go for a senior service help dog and let the look after you a little.  They are loveable and loyal.

Sorry for your loss. We suddenly lost our Female Pittie in July, days before I went in for cancer treatment and my 39th birthday. My other dog is lost without her, but I'm not ready. So I totally feel for you.

Craig, I'm a little late to this conversation but I concur with the others: adopt an older canine.  We've lost 3 in the last 18 months and it was tough.  I also lost the Boston Terrier used as my avatar shortly after I divorced the ex, so the cycle of loss is all too tough.

I know puppies are cute and fun, but there's something to be said for a dog that knows his or her value as a companion and mainly just wants to be by somebody's side- whether on a couch, at your feet while you cook, in the car or truck, on and next to the bed, or waiting as you finish a shower (usually with paws on your footwear...)

Craig,  I'm a year younger than you.  This outfit needs checking out.  Our dog and cat are family members as were yours.
