New big bore fan with a couple questions

Hey guys,
After spending a little time researching the Big bores it seems like it is not a product that you can just go out and buy, it looks like just about everywhere I look there are waiting lists and options to the guns. In researching guns the ones that I most about were DAQs, Corsairs, and Jack Haleys. Are there any more that I should look into? I am looking at the up to $700 range and realize that generally the most important factors are quality, accuracy, and noise. Or at least that is what would seem to me to be the most important factors? Also what are some thoughts on size, I am leaning towards .308 but what about the other options, .457, or 50, It sounds like .308 might give more shots per fill and maintains really good down range energy, just wondering what the seasoned big bore vets think?
Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Travis

What are you looking at a big bore for ? that would go a long way towards any suggestions
Korean big bores are out there readily avaiable off the shelf and for about 550 bucks

What NP said, x 2.
You hit on a couple of points already: noise and lots of air. Unless you just want one (which is certainly a good enough reason), or have specific purpose, they can be some work.

x 3, and the Korean Big Bores are readily available at Pyramyd Air and elsewhere in the $500-$700 range. Sam Yang, Shin Sung, Evanix and a few others (spelling optional).
Not a lot of ".50's" but .45, 9mm etc etc
As said, lot's of air (volume) per shot and typically, lot's of noise! Many Korean guns have dual air cylinders (over/under) for that reason. Many also have threaded muzzles for LDCs "quietness".

Thanks guys, I am wanting one for shooting and hunting. I would guess hunting would include hogs and deer. I was not sure about the Korean guns but it sounds like they have some fans out here. The dragon Claw looks pretty impressive and would probably fit the hunting aspect of wanting a big bore. I started out last year with a benji xl1100 and that spring boarded me into the AG world and am very excited to get into the big bore world. Manny and many others were very helpful and always willing to share knowledge on the Benji/Crosman gate so I figured I would see what the big bore gurus thought?
I will take a closer look at the Korean guns.
Thanks guys!

One thing that I will add is that I love some of the videos that you see of the big bores shooting and some are so quite but still chunk a big hunk of lead. I have heard that the Korean guns are very loud compared to others, but now I can tap into your knowledge and experience to get some ideas. Keeping it quite is pretty important, especially since I do plan to hunt with it. The first big bore videos that I watched were from tofazfou on youtube and liked how quiet the guns were.
Thanks,
Travis

Airguns sound much quieter on Videos than they do in real life here is a video shooting 2 DAQ Pistols that are very loud, so don't go from what you hear on videos
Neil Clague will make you a very effective LDc to take that sound down considerably.
The 909s would be your best choice for starters, lots af good cheap ammo out there fot it and better compromise of Caliber, .....sits perfectly between the .357 and the .50

I appreciate you sharing what you know about the big bores! Of the big bores you own or have shot, what is your favorite? and why?
Thanks,
Travis

My favorite is the Shin Sung Career 707 Ultra .357
6 shots lever action repeter, great power adjusting options to be used for both Small and Big game, extremely Accurate and powerfull

Travis, I'm not finding e'm for sale (new) in Google searches. Pyramyd Air has discontinued them (it's an older model but great gun)
Try American Airguns Classifieds and Yellow Forum Classifieds and post "wanted" on our forum classifieds too.

If you are looking to hunt deer, you will likely need something .40caliber and up to hunt the airgun-legal deer states.
I say go with the 909, or 909S and have it power tuned (I have a tuned 2tube version). Order some un-sized EPP/UG's at the same time so you will have a bunch of proven ammo all ready to shoot out of it.
These things are loud, but I have seen a coyote stopped with a sqweaker just seconds after I shot his buddy that was standing right next to him. He stopped for awhile, too. Not sure he would have stopped had he heard a super-sonic gunshot from a .223-.243
The ballistics are very much like a target/standard loaded .45ACP, so I wouldn't shoot it anywhere I wouldn't want to shoot a .45ACP.
Google "Butcher45 Sam Yang 909" and "boolit links".....then you can bore yourself for hours lol!

Travis here's a link to the video for a Sumatra Korean Rifle, it's a .22 but the same applies for the bigger bore guns from that maker.

Thanks guys, I will check that out. So is it just me or do the Korean gun seem a bit slower than say the DAQ, Corsair or Jack Haley? Is it because the Korean guns have lower max psi? I wish the 909 .45 was a lever action, that is pretty cool!

ok another question, are the carbon fiber paintball HPA tanks pre-regulated so that they cannot be used for AGs? I see a ton for sale but I am guessing most cannot be used for AGs. Is there a specific valve that is required for AGs? I am guessing most scuba tanks will work?
Thanks,
Travis

Travis: There are so many brands and combos of fill connections etc etc that no one has all the answers. Here's the drill for PCPs,
1) Settle in on one or two guns that you are sure you want, make, model and caliber
2) Read the specs for fill pressures in PSI or Bar, determine the filler connector type (ie Foster or others)
3) Determine what bottles/tanks match your fill pressure and volume needs (big-bores need big volume)
4) Determine what connector is on the bottle(s) that meet your needs (ie DIN or SCUBA or..?)
5) Based on the above, find a good quality braided stainless fill hose with proper connectors (shorter is better)
Check out the HPA bottle guys on line, there a lot of them, most also have or will make hoses as needed.
