Back Spatter

I have lost a few targets to back spatter punching holes from the back. I am using a HD Caldwell bullet/pellet trap, it is supposed to catch all the led however mine don’t.
Hints, tips, trix, I am open.
One of the NUAH targets I shot today has a couple of cuts at the bottom, it’s not the best one but……Ya know.

I use heavy target paper at 100 yards so it doesn’t move and cuts nice holes with round noses even at 100 yards. I don’t need to back it with anything. I use a 3/8” steel plate for back stop. My pellets always shatter into pieces. But Don’t re-puncture the targets.

Yep, I am using card stock for my targets. It still pops through.

 Rubber mulch trap

I use a slab of conveyor belt rubber in my Champion bullet trap to absorb the pellets & buffers the “clang”. It works with pellets pretty well up to 80 ft/lb.

I don't know if those are "splatters" or full pellet ricochets. To my eyes, they look like the latter. I'm not sure what the velocity and angle of impact of your pellets are at 100 yards, but I'm thinking your trap is allowing them to ricochet off something rather than bounce into the bottom of the trap because the velocity is slow enough and the angle steep enough to let the pellets "wipe" off the back of the trap and then ricochet/bounce off something back out the front.

Well, the pellets are NSA 20.2gn HPSlugs at 960 muzzle. StrelokPro says that it is right at 800fps at the target.
Next time I head out I will get a better look at the trap. I do know that there is some pretty bad pitting.
