HW 35E peep sight

Does anyone know who makes a peep sight that will slide onto the 11mm rail on my new HW35E. I am hoping it will just slide on and will have a pin for the arrester hole in the receiver. I would like to run this new rifle open sights for a while and peep seem a little easier for me as my eyes aren’t what they used to be.

Congrats on a great gun. This was just discussed in depth next door so I’m going to link you to it. More info that you’ll ever need. The two easiest and least expensive options are the Williams peep and the Tech sight Mycapt65 uses. The Williams doesn’t have a recoil stop pin but the linked thread has instructions on how to modify. It’s a great sight, have one on a Diana 34. Don’t believe the Tech sight has one or needs one. I think it’s the Remington 597 that Ron uses but he’ll probably stop in and verify at some point. MDriskill is the peep/diopter guru. Imagine he’ll see this shortly as well. If you want to stay in trouble awhile longer, the Gehmann sights are top shelf ha ha ha.

Bob, I use the Williams FP-AG-TK on mine and it works fine even without the mod for the pin stop. Just don't go overboard when tightening the two tiny Allen screws on the side. The heads will strip out if you do. The flathead screw on top can be tightened plenty and will keep the sight from moving.

On mine I use my old Beeman (Williams) sight..
It has been on several rifles over the years.

Thank you all so very much. I have a direction and now a mission. I love this back yard air gunning, but dang it is addicting for sure.. thanks for taking the time and the great pictures. My other three springers are scoped and I just wanted to have one to pop cans and little plastic dinosaurs on the back yard range.

 Beautiful piece of furniture on that one Joanie. Same sight I use on my D34. Have one for my HW35E but made the “mistake” of putting a Sightron on it. Unlikely to come off.

I understand, Chris. I've been tempted may, many times to scope the 35E or even red dot it and I might even shoot it more if I did, but I bought specifically to be my iron sight gun. So far, I've been resisting the temptation.

Understand completely, that’s what my Diana 34 is. I love shooting with peeps. Have a Gehmann 598 right now with no place to mount it. Looks like I need another rifle. Durn

I have an Anschutz diopter sight on mine, it clamps tight enough that a pin is not needed. I set it far enough forward so as not to interfere with access to the safety, then an extension tube and a Gehmann adjustable diopter.

Peeps are great. I prefer them on my HW30s. I still keep a pair of 30s scoped for the wife and I. The peep sighted one gets twice as much use as the other two.

I have one of these or similar model on one of my 35’s and it works well. I run it with the front “circle” insert.

I was shooting it the other night.  My results are rarely this good but blind squirrel and all that. 


I also run Airforce TS1s on several Weirauch air rifles and I am very happy with them. Also paired with the circle insert.

Here are a couple of rifles with the TS1.  Basically it works for me on a variety of platforms.  All have the front diopter/round insert being used.

The 11mm groove spacing is sorta becoming an industry standard - per all the great info above, you shouldn't have trouble finding a fine sight that will fit. But beware that besides the groove spacing, the sight must fit the arched receiver top. Some 11mm sights are made for flat rails (like Diana) and won't work.

My personal favorites for the HW 35 are Weihrauch's own classic diopter design:




And the excellent vintage Anschutz 6700 and 6800-series sights:




Caveats:
1. The HW sights were made for both 11mm, and their older 13mm, groove spacing. 11mm is more common to find nowadays, but verify you're getting the right one.
2. Some guys have noted a minor clearance issue with the Anschutz's clamping knobs on the 35's big receiver tube, but this seems rare.
3. Many sellers call any interesting old sight an "Anschutz" on auction sites, etc. Be familiar with what various makes actually look like.
