Quick 240 update!!

The other evening while out plinking from the deck/outdoor mancave, I had the little 240 for some tin can action. I got to thinking about the old Chinese stuff I used to fiddle with and it occurred to me that the breech seal on the 240 was a square shaped piece of rubber. And upon doing the finger nail test, I realized that it was almost completely flush with the breech block surface ,...... in the thousands at least,...I mean just enough to make a seal. While Ive never noticed any air bypass looking at the port hole,...nice "O-ring" foot print, it wasn't as pronounced as some of my other stuff but certainly no signs of a bad seal. After a few feeble attempts to cutout a shim of plastic coke bottle plastic, I went the Chinese route and found a nice thick black/butyl plumers O-ring in my airgun parts supply tackle box. We had a nice fit and not too proud to cause any barrel lockup issues. I wish I had chronied it before hand, but post seal replacement numbers turned out very nicely,....had to lower the rear sight a bit too!
The 7.0 grain RWS Basics averaged in the high 580 to low 590's. I bit higher than the gun is rated at 575 fps.
The "pricey" Gamo gold raptors stretched out to the mid 660's and the H&N tin Field Target WC's shot in the 680's with a high of 695.something.
Considering my range is around 30 meters/33 yards where I normally stand, this little rifle is sure impressive and fun to plink with going irons. I don't think I can really ask for too much more. Mini bottles are challenging but rewarding to strike off the ledge!!

That's good power for that rifle, Tom, I think mine shot the CPHP's 7.9gn in the 595fps AVE,

Thanks for the compliments Mark. It’s currently the only lowpowered .177 I have in my collection. That’s why I’ve placed a deposit on a new HW30 and ordered a new HW35 due this week. 😁

There is no such thing as redundant with airguns Yogi!!! Have you bought an HW30 yet?? If not, you owe it to yourself Brother. Besides you cannot have enough bbguns. I’m a collector, as well as a plinker😁.
All kidding aside, the HW30 will still add that extra umph and energy that the 240 just can not put out. The 240 is more of a project gun than a serious long range (30 yard and out) shooter. But the 240 wasn’t meant to stretch out to that range either. More of a personal challenge for me.

There are people with five variations of the same springer model, looking for more. Then there are people who have redundancy at the forefront of purchase decisions. I personally have let go of lovely guns with personal meaning due to redundancy, but that is far from the only way to go about this hobby / obsession.
