At the 30 and 50 yard ranges I shoot, so do I. Oh, I can't match the consistency of my PCPs group after group, but I can get all my German springers to shoot some groups now and then that compete with my PCPs. For me, that's a great trade off considering I can just grab and shoot my HWs and FWBs and not worry about having to fill or how many shots I have left. Just grab one of the springers and a tin of pellets and shoot away is a huge plus for my shooting.

Most PCP's will start leaking after a couple years; if they leak out completely most o-rings will need to be replaced.  Once spring piston guns are tuned properly, they will shoot for many years without anything ... unless U shoot so much the spring/piston seal goes.

This bears repeating. PCP's will leak, sooner or later, even if the shooter did everything right and even downright kept the shot count low (possibly to ward off boredom). There are not too many expensive bits of kit that did that. It's a huge downside. Why is it such a downside?

My sole PCP started to leak after a couple of years, for no good reason. No worries, I thought: I'll just check the many online forums for info on how to go about fixing the thing, just like I had done with my springers, time and time again. But no: info on how to de-gas, re-seal and re-gas PCPs was NOT freely available. It was almost as if there was a wall of silence surrounding the issue - and I had an FX, for chrissakes.

The reason seems to be this: a leaky PCP is still a highly dangerous high-pressure vessel, that can maim or kill a person who doesn't know what they are doing. So, people in the know keep a tight lip, and guys not in the know with leaky PCPs are forced to take their guns to commercial pros every couple of years to keep them shooting. This is not what I want, at all.

I've met bladeswitcher before personally.  Despite the fact he hasn't been active here, he is quite the airgun enthusiast and a square guy.  Ran a pawn shop for many years in Jefferson City.

W.D. and I went to the Arkansas Airgun Show a month or so ago. It was kind of a bust for selling stuff, but it was fun seeing the enthusiasm of the guys who were there.

Doing well, thanks.  I changed jobs in 2019 so I don't get to drive through Jeff City and say hi anymore.  I still stay in contact with WD.  I keep wanting to drive down and murder some of his squirrels but all my other irons in the fire burn the time away.

Hi Mark.  Maybe you could find some time this fall to come to mid-mo for some squirrels, I've got some local areas with some good squirrel populations close.  It would be nice to see you again.  I have helped Bob with some of his excess, only took too but If I get rid of the PCP I might help him with more.

Very excellently stated! The elegant simplicity of a self-contained powerplant - springer, MSP, or SSP - has always been, to me, the most appealing thing about airguns in general.

+3 LOL. I shot my 56T/H and Logun MKII Pro together last night and had the same thoughts while I was hooking up filters, putting silicone oil on probe etc. to fill the Logun. If I showed you the groups you wouldn’t know which was springer and which was PCP unless I told you. I appreciate the power and long range accuracy of PCP but if I could keep only one it would be a springer. German, of course.

I used to be a pawnbroker. I busted my share of plaster weights out of knife handles and candlestick bases before sending the stuff off to melt.

   I still like the rws springers  if they are right and in the right hands they will shoot dang close to a pcp  with no tanks hoses and this and that,, i had a walther that would shoot hole in hole. You would be suprised what a spring and guide will do.  I have personally seen Mike shoot at GTA event and I will tell you  you better be on your toes with what ever kind of gun you have to shoot against him,  and he won the paintball contest with ease.   My first impression of Mike is his rifle looked like a tooth pick he is a big fellow and I dont mean fat.   David
