Brent - So close to 20. Did you get out on a medical or just had enough of the military?
I’ve got a medical discharge but I avoid the VA. I have very good insurance through my employer so I’m holding off on dealing with the VA until after I retire here.

68-70 11th Armored Calvary Regiment E troop, Vietnam and Cambodia. It's to bad some stories can't be told.
Thank you to all who served - especially to those who fought and sacrificed.I had it easy being on an icebreaker. Worked at and above Thule Air Base in Greenland. The B-52 that crashed 7 miles from the base carrying four hydrogen bombs caused a radiation event. 56 years later, the VA sent us a letter saying we are entitled to VA healthcare due to radiation exposure. This was the first official notice about it. I wonder if that contributed to my cancer. The captain and chiefs would be around 100 years old or more now, so they missed out on the free benefits. Also made two trips to Antartica, then search and rescue on a different ship. Enjoyed the sea and the work. Operated a commercial salmon trawler for a while after I got out. Life is good, no complaints. The chief bos’n would say, “Back when ships were wood and men were steel…” So I would do it all over again, the good and the not so good. It takes all of it to bring each of us to where we are now. Be well, hold course, shoot straight, and do good.
