PS I got one with the .20 Escape, and Nick 1 with the .25 Vectis, squirrels are wary needing to reach out farther and harder., sounds like a Die Hard Movie LOL.
Slept in till 8 so no tree stand sitting. Took the MSR and Notos to a new part of Lake Allatoona WMA I hadn't been to yet. It's a pine forest so thinking it would be a great hiding place for deer. I found tracks, one rub and a bedding area for three but no deer sightings. I left the tree stand today and went with the light load out for walking/scouting. Clocked 3.65 miles and only covered half of the peninsula. My first nutter was standing in the road bed. I had too much movement for an off hand standing so I went to kneeling and he ran into the brush. After a 15 minute wait I moved on. About 2 miles in I sat with my back to a ridge and found these two nutters about 40' up a tree 30 yards out. Took aim and watched the 40' Fosbery flop. His brother tried to go down the side of the tree so he only had to fall 20' by the time I drew crosshairs on him just before he landed at the base of said tree. Getting faster on the slit the back skinning and loving the Gerber game shears even more.
Took a trip to the squirrel woods today, Nick was having an off day with the Vectis .25, hardly missed last time. I Shot one at 50 it rant to a hollow tree 10 yards in front of me I waited 5 minutes with the .20 Escape UL pointed at the hole, to see if it would drop down, then I walked around the tree to see if there was a hole up top that it could have given me the slip from. Nope i come back around the base of the tree, and peek a boo there it is, runs back into the tree. I remember I have the Huben .22 holstered and pull it out and screw on the LDC, waited a few minutes and sure enough it popped back out and pop went the weasel
Had a decent hunt yesterday First 1/2 hour I am waiting out a few squirrels chasing around 50+ yards out, hoping either one stays still long enough to get a shot on it or come in closer and make it even easier. Meanwhile all i hear on the other side of the woods trail is pop thwack , pop thwack, repeatedly I thought Nick was framing a house with the sounds the Vectis makes , ends up with 4 in that spot, while looking over his bag , 2 more come in, I take aim with the Speedfire .25 ping thwack, it drops and scrambles 10 ft from there , another finishing shot with the GK1 and I have one in the bag. We move on and do another stand 200 yards further down the trail, I managed another one and also had to ventilate gray matter with the GK1, been my everyday carry around the farm for easy pest removal if the opportunity occurs. Too busy cleaning critters to get pics.
Got a rabbit last evening Good shooting __ no way. Just luck.
Got a rabbit last evening down on Deans place . Aim, holdover, bang. Knocked it over. Paced it out at 101 paces. Taking a pace to be 30 inches that is 84 yards. Not bad for a Gamo.Good shooting __ no way. Just luck.
Looks tasty, wonder if a Southern fried squirrel franchise would take off LOL
I went into work yesterday to cut some firewood, met up with Nick, so we did a sweep of the woods with air rifles first, spotted about 8 squirrels, but they all seemed to be on the run or late for a party I had one run up behind me , hit the brakes 5 ft from me , adjust his nut then do a U turn and back from where it came. I had the Speed Fire .25, was tempted to give it the ole spray n pray at point blank, but decided I did not need the drama that might occur LOL
I walked through the gun room this morning on my way out the door and make a split decision to grab another gun for squirrel duty if I had a chance today, I was planning a firewood harvest at the lest. Oh look my ATP2 Tactical, with a Bug Buster Been awhile, break time I loaded some Crosman domed 10.5 and clamped on the crony, 745 fps, ok still where it was set when I bought it. No where on paper at 18 yards, find the scope is maxed to the left and up pretty much, must have had it on another gun and tossed it on here but ran out of sight in time OK diled in now hole in hole. End of the day we take to the squirrel woods spot a gaggle of them on the far side near the lake cottages, decide to creep around to get more safe shot opportunities on them, as they would not stay put for any safe shots I or Nick could get lined up on. I finally got a poke at one through the ear and out the other side, DRT. Nick and I move on as some eagles swooped through looking for the same game we were I bet lol. mid woods we spot a few more, Nick manages to blast one out of its knothole with the Vectis .25 from about 45 yards, head shot also, but his squirrel insisted on being more dramatic. Ending the pursuit nearing the exit, we get on several more romping in thick underbrush and Red Cedar trees, I cold not get a shot and the one I did take was deflected by brush Nick worked his way ahead a bit and got a shot at one 1/2 way up a Red Cedar, then right as he confirmed target down and was going to retrieve it he spotted another about 10 or so yards away just waiting for what came next LOL... We had several fly bys from the bald eagles today also P.S. Sorry about the run on sentence my enter key is jammed
