One would think we would run out of these tree rats any day now, we only hunt the middle of the woods and leave the north and south alone except if after deer or turkey.

 I also bought the bottle Jet a $40 stripper

I'd call that a squirrel infestation!  The only time I've seen bags like that was after hunting an old overgrown Pecan plantation.  Are you folks just having a banner year or is that normal?

 They have been plentiful for the 6 years I have observed them, but lightly hunted, focused on bigger game and farm pest, I am hoping this will help the song birds in the area. It does seem to have been a bumper crop of chipmunks and squirrel though this season.

Not only that but Tom had a troll that persisted until Tom grew tired of it.

Went for a walk with Angus last evening  .
Got a small rabbit down the roAd and chucked it in the grass for the Pukekos to eat.  Went a bit further and got another small one and left that at the junction  then i called in to a neighbours place to check out their lawn. Got chatting and Ann said her daughter wanted the rabbit for her dog. Too small to bother about really but she was going for a drive anyway. I said i would see if I could get a bigger one. Off i went done the lane and bang. Got a good big one so i left that at the junction as well. Got a nice thank you text for them .
I am still fizzing at the bung about getting rhe big one. Good simple fun in the country.

 Swapped out the target scope on my .20 Air Force Escape UL xl with a nice basic 4x 32 UTG wide angle scope with 35 yard fixed parallax. /Took it out to the squirrel woods and was able to thread the needle through 35 yards of branches on this fine young lady that was 3/4 the way up a tree. Was about it for getting any others to cooperate with testing this new to me .20 setup.

4 x 32 UTG with 35 yds parallax. That sounds a very good hunting/rabbiting scope  I have never seen anything like that here but I am now on a quest  PS. I just heard a second hand story of a bloke that got 600 rabbits in a weekend. I am a bit sceptical of that but there are a lot around here. I cant get more than three or six a weekend walking about with Angus
If rhe 690 was down ib central Otago then yes i would believe that  i have seen videos of ute loads stacked high in a cage.
Major threat to farming down there .

  Thanks Hugh and Jerry, Wabbit is next on the game menu, I got one hunt in last season, friend came with his Beagles and we got 5 in a 1/2 a day. but left that many remaining I'm sure too.

Rabbit is my favorite game critter but the Coyotes have pretty much wiped them out in my neck of the woods.  I envy those of ya'll with a good rabbit population.  They will come back.  They always do.

 Nick and I hit the squirrel woods again today, Nick was shooting my Hatsan Vectis .25 I let him try out over the last few days, he mounted a cheap beeman 4x scope on it and got it dialed in and managed to drop 3 squirrels while stalking slowly through the woods,.
 I was picking spots where they are known to pass through and sat and waited for a shot, only got one to his 3 with my DAR gen 3 .22 and Norma 17.6 gr domed. They are shooting very accurately out of my DAR

That's a good Safari and tempting news about the DAR gen 3.  I use a mixture of your two methods.  Some days I sit with my back to a tree at a sweet spot and some days I just walk 0.6mph as quiet as possible.  Here in Georgia we must wear 500 square inches of blaze orange during PB Deer season and I haven't been able to get within 35 yards of a squirrel with my vest on over my camo.....

 The dove and crow hunters are excluded . Predator ( coyote ) hunters excluded until deer & bear season also . Groundhog hunters are required to wear a full
 blaze ( no camo blaze ) hat. As a kid I remember of many instances of G-hog hunters shooting or being shot , in the head while laying prone in fields w/ out

I don't disagree with the requirement during firearms season, just comment on decrease in sightings and increase in distance.  I had a nutter rustling behind my sitting tree the other day and rolled to prone and yes I had my orange vest, and orange watch cap on over my camo coveralls.  Safety first and happy hunting sir.

Out of bed at the crack of dawn like a toddler on Christmas.  Wonderful vittles at Waffle House and shuffling to my stand location with cyclops light on head before sunrise.  20 feet up at first light.  Didn't see a single deer all day, however, I empty a clip of Notos pellets at 35 yards at some armor platted ninja fast tree rats during a two hour sit.  Fortunately I remembered a loading stick for the jumper was in my utility belt and put 12 mystery pellets in instead of having to go to the HRV for the jumper.  Back on the ground I walked to creekside for a nice sit/nap a peaceful hour with no movement.  Since two groups walking off leash dogs had gone by my general area I decided the day was done.  As fate would have it I spotted a nutter on the way to the HRV.  I deposited the tree stand in the car and noticed the scope mounts were loose on the Notos and the lever that adjusts length of pull was broken (fortunately all the way out which is my setting).  I tightened the scope mounts with low expectations and walked back to where I had seen Mr. Nutter.  Thought he was hiding in the split of a tree about 20' up and 30 yards out.  He was sitting perfectly still and I missed him offhand standing (heard the mystery pellet hit wood).  We danced down the tree with a couple more pellets.  Broke his shoulder and put a large wound cavity in the chest once he made it to the base of the tree and again thought he was camoed.  So the Notos is still MOS accurate at 25 yards and 18fpe will humanely harvest a squirrel.  I did the middle of the back cut for skinning (thanks to a GTA senior) and had him in a gallon freezer bag in 10 minutes (half time for rookie me).  Shameless plug for the Gerber Inuit Knife and Game shears!  If I wake up I'm ground stalking another location in the morning.  Happy Holidays to all GTA however you choose to enjoy!
