Decided to wait a day on the deer, did see a few, but no shooters, bagged out on the nutters and a rare red to boot.
How does the raccoon taste I never had any?
Nick and I took a venture into the woods where I bagged out the other day, today was his turn to limit out, I got good shots on only 3. Nick was using my Notos and metal mags, and I was thumping them with the M16A and .25 Poly Mags.
So I walked 2.88 miles today but left the tree stand in the car. I came in a different way to the lake to my old camera site. I literally sat on a log in plain view in a blaze Orange Hoodie (no camo). Across the creek (off hunting area) Squirrels were running around making a ton of noise at 50Yards. I had the Notos and14.3cphps so I decided to discipline myself for sub 30Yard shots. After 30 minutes one ran across the creek on a log...thus entering USACOE Hunting area. I had dialed the Notos' CP4-12X back from 12x to 10X. A quick adjustment of the sidewheel brought everything into focus. When she stopped at the base of a den tree for Darwin to Award her 14.3gr to the pectoral (missed the spine/neck at 20yards)...danced like a can and apparently hit the heart as there was a ton of blood at the entry sight. Practice made improvement as it only took 15 minutes to skin, clean and place in the gallon ziplock....another Darwin Candidate raced across a closer long onto Hunting Area property and kept going at a chipmunk pace so I never really got a clear scope long enough to confer the Darwin Award so I sent $0.023 into the woods since they moved after pausing long enough for me to aim....So completing my day OnX said I was about 1 mile from the HRV so I walked the roadbed. Guess who I bumped gathering nuts by the roadbed only an hour before sunset. I was only 5 yards away when I spooked her almost had a bead on her on the ground then up a tree she went. Sat on a log right next to the roadbed with my eyes on the last known location...sure enough 25 minutes later she laced up her Nike's and made a run for it on a long log....I tracked as best I could and when the log ended I put the crosshairs on the spine neck. Me or the wind took it 1/2" back and broke both shoulders at 20 yards, Fell off the log and circled like a teenager doing donuts in Dad's Camaro coming to rest DRT.I will be looking to see if the 18gr's give the Notos a little more knockdown and will keep my Notos Safaris under 35 yards going forward. Gonna need Thick Girl for 90fpe 50 yard knockdowns after Deer Season ends and we get to late season....
Good shooting on the opportunities that presented themselves Charles, can be frustrating when they do not want to come into range. I must be just nutty enough to act as bait
Took a quick Safari today numbers are noticeably less, but Nick god a shot at 2 with the Notos, and I dropped one from a tall oak with the Speed Fire .25
