Since small game season opened last week I guess this isn’t truly a pesting post. I took the dogs for their evening walk around my permission. I carried my Crosman Fire/Prowler hybrid and a handful of 8.64gr H&N FTT. I wasn’t planning on taking any game. Just carrying a gun for plinking. Of course Flash treed a squirrel in a tall white cedar about 40’ up. It took me a while to spot it. I kept telling Flash he’d been skunked and that squirrel was long gone but he insisted it was still up there and he could see it. I had to get back 50’ or so and walk all around the thicket. I finally spotted it and got a bead. I’d like to say it was a one shot kill but it took three hits to pry the nutter loose from the tree. It came down in the middle of a dense swampy thicket so I sent the dogs in. Or at least I tried to. Flytrap said she wasn’t going in there. Then Flash went in and found the squirrel but Flash won’t retrieve anything but tennis balls. So I sent Belle in. She found the squirrel and brought it to within about five feet of the clearing. Then she lay down and started to chew it. I tried to coax her out but she wasn’t having it. So I whistled for the other dogs and pretended to leave. Instantly she bolted out of the brush with the dead nutter hanging from her mouth. She dodged around me and headed for the house with the squirrel firmly clamped in her jaws. When I got back to the house she was lying by the back door with the well masticated nutter between her paws. I’d say she’s got the instincts. Just needs more training. BTW I don’t consider this gun a squirrel gun but so far this year it has killed four nutters.
That's the way to treat porch pirates Dinh!
Good shooting guys, alas squirrels everywhere today untill I had time to hunt them, then the rains began
As I came home from work and about to pull into the driveway, a fat ole nutter ran across my front yard and headed towards the back of the house. I pulled into the garage and went and grabbed the Notos.I peeked out the door window and spotted a smaller nutter eating acorns on the lawn. I tried to stealthily open the door, but the nutter heard and spotted me immediately. It ran, about 5ft up the closest oak and hid behind some leaves. It must have felt it was well hidden, because it stayed motionless. Unfortunately, for it, I had a full view of its backside minus the head. A squeeze of the trigger and it hit the ground with just a few seconds of trashing before complete silence. As I'm waiting to give it time to make sure it has expired, I spot movements by the shed. Its a chipper by one of my blueberry bush. It was enjoying its last acorn meal. It's a 30yd shot at a small target with only a 4x scope. I braced my arms on top of the Weber kettle grill, and placed the cross hair on the head, which was nearly covered by the thick cross hairs of the Aim scope. I heard the whack of the impact and dropped the chipper where it stood. A few twitches and it was lights out.Later on, a second chipper appeared by the same blueberry bush while I was working in my garage. This shot was nearly half the distance. I didn't hear the impact, so wasn't sure it was a hit. Upon searching the area, I found a blood trail. I followed until it ended at a small burrow.

Got this nutter and was aiming for the eye but moved and got her just below the eye and out thru the left ear. AG is a chaser with safepac .177.
This chipper had a hidey hole under my plastic container, under the deck. I opened the door of the basement and it sat there munching on an acorn only about 10ft away. It must have felt safe being right next to its hidey hole. I pressed the power button on the laser and placed the red bead upon its head. It kept eating, while fully watching me.It gets flipped on its back, and have a few twitches of its limbs before lights out.

And they move fast too,but they pause a little longer than the chipmunks...
