I have some fairly graphic photos of exit wounds from other squirrels. I'm actually tempted to tune this gun down for less expansion/more ice picking, but then I wouldn't feel comfortable taking shots on larger game. I think sometimes the slugs open up even more than the 0. 297" I measured. One recovered slug opened up and then the sides folded in, but it was just over 0.3“ on the long side.

The 2240 is better for less damage to the squirrels, but it's hard to hit them accurately beyond 40 feet. I found a 22 cal pellet fired from my stubby 2240 embedded under the tail of a squirrel. It must have been a ricochet or something, because it was just lodged in there with minimal tissue damage. I did take a Pic of that while I was skinning. If I hit a squirrel broad side with the stubby I still get a pass through, even through the skull and bones.

I got three pineys after work today, but only took a pic of the first one. All with the Stormrider until I sight in my 2240 stubby "2230"

These squirrels seem to be never ending. Every time I think they have been sufficiently thinned out, more show up. I've been worried about over hunting them in the past, but that appears to be impossible.

They're Back.....  , I looked out the back window and the Squirrels were running amuck through the trees, they must have known I took a fall and twisted my ankle, I can still limp, I'll be ready for them tomorrow

Red squirrels seem to reproduce over night.  My son in law and I shot 42 our 1st day on the 6 acres to the north of their house.  The next day we shot 6.  3rd day we shot 33 on the 3 acres to the west. The 4th day we shot 64 on the north 6 acres.  Everyday for the next 3 weeks we shot 6 to 30 reds a day on that 6 acres.  Must be a low rent district with all the reds constantly moving in.

Friday evening I saw the 'coon in the yard that I believe has been digging up out flower pots. It was digging in the yard next to a birch tree.
 I just happened to be seated at the shooting bench plinking with my old Winchester 435 (Diana 35) in .177.
 I know that gun is old and slow but accurate so I turned 90 to the right and shot.
Hit!
 But it just spun around and went back to digging. (Crawdad?)
Take 2... Same result. Spun around like "what was that?" Back to digging.
 Persistent cuss. 
3rd shot was right on the noggin. I watched it sail right between the eyes.
It ran behind the tree that time but soon came back out and started digging AGAIN.  . It appears the .177 wadcutters out of this tired old gun were just "stinging" it.
By now it was dusk.
Went inside.. grabbed the Texan. Sure enough it was still there... turned on the green recitals and "KA-BOOM!"
Success! "A-hole over apple cart"

Then Hoosier Mooma opened the sliding door and yelled "DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?!"

Great thread James hope it's a hit. I been on hiatus for a while now. The squirrels have been closing in on the Apt complex but the new landlord cut all the small bushes down so there's no cover so..they are getting a pass. I sent him a pic two weeks ago of a squirrel on the garage roof. He text back asking what was it doing? I replied probably chewing up anything and everything it can, that's what they do. Lol.

I have disposed of a lot of dead yard pests this spring but I haven't shot any of them.... so far.
I haven't had do do much pest shooting, since I got the big Cat with the 1 1/8 inch canines.
He is real hard on Chipmunks, Rats, Rabbits and Squirrels.
He is all muscle and very athletic.
He the has " the Leopard walk" which is a Bombay trait.
He is a 22 lb male and is 75% Bombay / 25 % Black Maine Coon.
The cat is an ambusher and some times it will drop down from a tree branch.


The dog is getting good at it too.
He is 25 lbs now with long legs and runs ....Fast.
He's a real fire plug with no off switch.
The dog is a chaser with a strong prey drive

It really deserves a compact 1-6x20 scope. The glass on this red dot is quite dark and I have to run the dot so bright to see it. The red dot on my Stormrider is much better and probably cost me the same $40-ish. The impact of the 177 10.03 JSB slug is ten times louder than the muzzle report. I swear it sounds like a rimfire when that slug connects with flesh.

I don't bother on cheap optics 'cuz they're just throwaway + Vortex has a lifetime warranty that is why I kept it even if it's made in China.
