pellets,break in,recommendations please

So I have a 22 Cal nitro venom and I want to know what pellets I should use and how to prep and break it in properly. And any recommendations to help get the best out of this rifle. Thanks

You don't need expensive pellets to break in your Venom. Go to Wally and get a couple of tins of CPHP's, Crosman Premier Hollow Points.  They are less than $10 per tin. Shoot a tin of these, then you can start looking for a more accurate pellet. If you're lucky, your gun will like the CPHP's.

Crosman Premier Hollow Points (CPHP) work just fine in my Quest 800.

Any 14-16 grain pellet will do you fine. You just want to lead the barrel, break in the seal and burn off any combustibles in the chamber. I have used Daisy HP and they also work fine at $5/tin they are now my break-in pellets.

Ditto to all the above, clean the barrel and degrease her as best as possible, wipe her down with some Rem-oil or other light/clear oil and let er rip for 500 shots.

Start with a few of the heaviest pellets you have...that will minimize the chance of harm to your piston seal if there are too many combustibles in the compression chamber.

i use cphp's as strickly break in pellets.. shoot a tin and call it broken in enough to start checking out just how accurate the rifle is with the higher end better quality pellets

I have one rifle that really likes the Daisy hps and at that price.  I bought more today, they fly straight and kill quick. They look awful though, first impression is poor, fingers will be dirty. But shoot em anyway, it is what my Cabela outfitter 22 prefers , who am I to argue.

Hey guys just wondering if I should or can clean the bore with a bronze brush or nylon? And what caliber for the. 22? I've heard the regular 22 is wider than an airguns.

A lot of guys use weed eater line to pull patches through the barrel. You don't want to use a cleaning rod that is harder metal then the barrel.. I use the winchester cleaning kit from wally world but I am extremely careful using it and make sure not to damage the barrel.. they do make airgun cleaning kits that come with nylon push rods..

I use a Hoppes kit for .177. You don't want to use a .22 cleaning kit, as .22 in an air rifle is actually less diameter than .22 cartridge.

What about a .22 caliber boresnake for the. 22 nitro venom?

A .22 boresnake will work in a .22 Nitro Venom. .22 is the same whether it be a powder burner or air rifle.

So I use a .177 kit to avoid possible damage to my .22 Crosman barrel.

for cleaning, i would recommend a crown saver from aoa. it goes in the muzzle and out the breech. will not pull free from the patch/patches no matter how tight. works wonders.  i use it for all of my guns. even the pb's. i would pull 2 dry patches per pull til clean. then shoot til dirty. 500/1000/1500 pellets and repeat.

Beeman cleaning pellets that are made of a fiber work wel. The weed eater line is great for the patches.

my .22 npss is not dissimilar from your venom.  i had great success with the brass brush and jb non embeding bore cleaner.  20 strokes, followed by the mop and patches soaked in rem oil & then dry ones, and it was done.  after 15-20 shots, it shot stupid accurate, and still does today.  I've got about 350 rounds through it now.
